Exuberant. That was the best word for it. She’d taken off earlier in the day with a small flock of Edge pegasi, and for her debut flight there was no greater reward than a lavish display of fireworks. She’d touched down with the ghost of a stumble and was immediately greeted by the crackling smell of bonfires hanging gauzy over the crisp mountain pine; and from the moment she’d stepped through the great iron gate her eyes had been alight with wonder and, strolling around the Basin alone, that light had yet to dim. She was glowing, pale and soft as a star. For a stretch of time she hung onto Tilney and the other herd members before her curiosity got the better of her; scenting something strange and intriguing on the wind, she (with Snapdragon half-asleep in the ruffles of her wither-weathers) took off at a skipping pace to investigate.

She was not let down.

In a circle of fragrant trees was a circle of flame, and in the center was a small woman adorned with wild, entrancing markings. Ultima stopped very short, her breath fogging all about her head as the mare spoke – “Step into the circle with me and we will see what the spirits have to say of your future.” A fortune telling? Latching onto her excitement (and the slightest twinge of apprehension, like a tickle in her throat), Snapdragon poked his head from the deeps of his featherbed and mewled, tugging on their bond like a child at a sleeve. “Shh,” she said, dithering on the outer edge of the timber. More people began to arrive, entranced by the soothsayer’s song and the music filling the clearing like smoke. Snapdragon yowled again, stretching before balancing on her foremost wing joint. “Oh— Fine! Let’s go!”

Casting her misgivings to the wind and breathing deeply of the sage, juniper and cherry, Ultima stepped forward between the flickering points of fire. Despite her misgivings, the thrill of a fortune gripped her as much as it’d grip any young girl. She dipped her head and smiled, brain humming with expectation.

“Miss, could I ask what you see?”
command me to be well.

@Aisling + mention of @tilney
fortune idea: MEETING SOMEONE VERY SOON IN THE FUTURE???
if you could blur the line so she can't tell if it's a romantic thing or just a friend or an enemy, that'd be cool!! xo
please tag ultima in all posts!
force/magic a-ok, shy of killing/maiming her!
