His navy rimmed ears flickered toward the Gladiator, a grin strewn across his lips as his blue gaze found the opposing scarlets as Volterra chuckled. Sunjata joined him, quietly, surprisingly enjoying the company of the equine. It was so unlike him, to be so calm and dare it be joyous around such company, but likewise – what his sister didn’t know wouldn’t kill him. And so, he played the part, developing a comfort in his chest for beasts like the skull marked man. He listened, intently as Volterra spoke, speaking of the intelligence of all the species in this area named Helovia. Jata continued to file away the information, unable to truly comprehend a world where everyone was given the same amount of lessons. Was there no need for hierarchy? For being born into a rank as it did back home? Or was there more competition, due to anyone being able to do the same jobs as others?
Volterra continued to speak and Sunjata emitted a louder chuckle, his deep tones reverberating along his vocal chords as he nodded. “They weren’t taught much, really. They were kind of left to themselves.” He began, folding his wings up tight against his indigo spine. “They’re not that intelligent either. Very superstitious, terrified of the gods.” His gaze left Volterra for a few moments as he thought, his brows furrowing together ever so slightly as he tried to recall the few encounters he had with the Debwani. “They hate us, the winged ones. When I was about two years old one tried to chase me holding onto a stick that was on fire. He forgot I could fly, apparently.” His attention returned to his equine company, another small chuckle passing his lips. "Do you exist with one another?" He questioned, his snow white head tilting slightly as he peered at the Gladiator.
"Talk."
We slipped into midnight
like the death of the sun.
