I heard a whispered dream of you

in the prayer of the stars and the hymn of the rain

"Will you trust me, place this seaweed into your mouths, and follow me down into places you've never been able to go before?"

Oh, goodness, no, no thank you, no, nope, not in a million years. It is here that the girl draws the line between faith and self-preservation, a fine beading of cold sweat rising on her skin at the very idea of going into the wretched, murderous sea. Even a peripheral, exploratory thought of it makes her skin crawl and her viscera churn, and she backs up several rapid paces, stumbling in the unsteady sand. This must be an evil god, Noe thinks, her ears pinned back into the mess of her hair, Trying to coax us down to hell. A diabolical act which seems to be working, for all around her there are foolhardy innocents plunging into the hungry waves. She tries to call to them, to warn them of the danger, but her voice catches in her constricting throat, and they vanish like stones, pulled one-by-one into the deep. Erthë darts past here, and Noe wants to call out, to keep her from what will almost certainly be her doom, but the painted priestess cannot talk.

She cannot even watch, for the mere sight of the waves makes her knees unsteady and her head reel.

Her crowned head shaking, Noe retreats somewhat up the beach, to where a group of sensible children stand, evidently also of the opinion that the ocean is to be avoided. Smart. Sensible. And someone needs to look after them. One appears scantly more than a newborn, the other only slightly older. "We'll help from up here!" the Rain Girl calls (mutters), though to who it is unclear- the false god? The children? The shaky notes of her voice are muffled, unsteady, but even this decrease in proximity has inspired in her some small relief. The beat of her heart is less uproarious, the churning of her stomach less tumultuous, as she continues to pass her stuttering brown gaze over the remaining crowd, praying to the Gods of Sky and Stars to somehow intervene, and keep these idiots from certain death.
