The one his brother had called pretty yelled at them as they ran toward the ocean, but he was already committed on this path and too long legged to change it now. He'd once attempted to stop and turn, and his legs turned into tangles that tripped him to the sand. No, the only thing that could stop him now was the brute force of water hitting his chest. He squinted against the salt water and held his breath until he simply had to inhale. Much to his surprise, he could actually breathe!
Luther finally opened his eyes and saw an entire, massive world that he had never known before. The water god's light on his forehead led the way, and his legs flailed out in front of him as he swam toward it. His heart was pounding in his chest as his body worked to keep up, and he even found a rhythm with the beat of his wings in the water to help propel him forward. Somehow, underwater travel was much harder - maybe even than flying!
Strange creatures moved by - hairless things. They had shiny bodies and were a weird shape. None of them had legs like his either, and their eyes were permanently stuck open. Some were pretty, bright colors and others were very plain, but they seemed to swim in groups of their own kinds. Luther wondered if they had souls like he did, or if they just sort of existed within the confines of their own purpose.
Kisamoa spoke in their minds, and he thought about a word he would want to share with these bizarre creatures. What was his favorite memory of his time above? Luther smiled.
"BROTHER."
