your faith was strong but you needed proof
The day had finally arrived, both Elsa and Edgar had a fitful night of sleep. The anticipation was building within the Icebound, whilst Edgar was just way too excited to be able to be with Antaa again. She had grown on him like a weed, and sometimes he almost acted like he needed her because of their coalescing personalities.

The bowl of fat and pebble were stored away in a nearby hallow tree. Gingerly, she carefully removed the bowl of hardened fat, and motioned for Edgar to carry the bright orange stone. Before picking it up, she pressed gently against the zephyr pendant that Darwin had also gifted her. He may not realize it yet, but he was changing her life in more ways than he could possibly imagine.

Stone clutched up in his talons, Edgar headed toward the Falls, and Elsa to the veins. Edgar had gotten a head start so they’d be able to meet up around the same time. Using the little bits of time she had left, she tried to calm herself. There was an unease that was settled deep within her stomach, what if the Earth God had changed his mind? What if the Moon Goddess decided to show up and give her an ass whooping for throwing wrenches into the most recent herd quest. Quite frankly, her standing with the Gods she believed was not in too good of a favor.

Midday arrived, and Elsa collected the bowl and headed south. Edgar was sending occasional updates, unable to communicate for long due to the energy it required over such a long distance. He had picked up the duo fine, and they were on their way. Of course, he couldn’t help but spend a little time chattering away in her head about how nice it was to have Antaa back. Rolling her eyes, Elsa was suddenly glad her fear of the Falls kept her away- there was no way she’d make it through that journey without dying from the cuteness of it all.

Within a few hours, Elsa had arrived. She approached the desecrated shrines, noticing how they were covered in thick foliage. Even beneath years of disrepair, there was something magnificent about them. Elsa placed the bowl down, and waited a few moments. Soon Edgar squealed from a short distance away, announcing their arrival. Elsa offered a warm smile to Darwin, and gingerly approached reaching out her muzzle in a sign of thanks. She gestured them over to where the bowl sat, and Edgar plopped down the orange pebble before hopping back over towards Antaa. Elsa gestured toward the bowl and then toward Darwin. “If you want, you can heat it now before I try to call him.” She let a few moments pass before she called toward the Gods.

“God of Earth… I have returned. I hope I have completed your task sufficiently.” She wasn’t sure what else to stay, so opted for silence as she waited for the towering god to arrive. The only thing that kept her from running away in a fit of anxiety was knowing that Darwin was here for her. At least someone cared.

You found the secret,
you’d kill it
just to keep it.
Finally, the day had come. They had waited for what felt like an eternity between both the fiery zephyr and her bonded. Antaa longed to see Edgar again, and Darwin had already missed Elsa’s company by the time they grudgingly left the forest. And so, despite the fact he was supposed to be a warrior and do warrior things now, he patiently waited. Perhaps putting his own best interests before that of his herd. Surely the Earth God would understand? After everything he had been through, his anger was slowly dissipating (perhaps partial to the fact that Archibald had been removed from the pedestal he sat upon), and he was beginning to focus on other things.

Emotions were a finicky thing, and Antaa’s bubbly sense of excitement and sheer joy as the icy zephyr came to their aid was enough to cause that strange sensation in his chest. “It time!! Darwin, it time!” Came the words from his cheerful companion. The sensation grew stronger as he gathered what he needed (which wasn’t much aside from his composure) to follow the two seemingly lovebirds off to the Veins. It hadn’t really taken long, and as they approached he spotted the Icebound what seemed like a mile away. The sensation billowed further, tracing every bone in his body at the mere sight of her. She seemed happier now, perhaps in a better place despite what appeared to him as being nervous.

As Darwin closed in, and Edgar and Antaa bounded off to do their own thing aside from being emotional support for the two of them that perhaps couldn’t admit these newfound feelings for one another, Elsa stepped toward him with her muzzle outstretched to show her thanks and a hello. Darwin couldn’t resist, of course, reaching his own bearded ashen muzzle out toward hers, brushing gently against the pale mare’s with a soft smile. He lingered for a few moments, eyes shutting momentarily as he took in the fresh winter scent of the woman he felt like he waited a year to see again. As she stepped back and motioned toward the bowl, Darwin tightened his wings around his frame and nodded. “Of course.” He flashed her a small grin before focusing the energy he tried to keep just for this moment.

Soon, after a minute or so of pain as it struck through his body like lightning, his river stone eyes opened, he made his way toward the bowl in his phoenix form, moving his hot fiery wings over the bowl to heat the fat up once more. It didn’t take as long this time, since they had done it previously, and so he waited patiently the few minutes it took before the fat began to bubble and turn into a liquid instead of the strange blubbery-ness that it had been previously. Stepping back, he let his magic slip away from him, shifting back into the standard snow-white image of Wilder as his ears swiveled, listening to the call from Elsa. Then, it was just a waiting game.

His gaze landed on her, noticing the necklace that seemed so attached to her now. He had to admire how beautiful the silver looked upon her already pale pelt. “You’ll do fine, Elsa. I’m not worried.” He offered her another reassuring smile before stepping beside her, his wings folded up against his back, a few of the plumes brushing against her pelt if she stayed where she was.

"Talk."

The GOD of the EARTH

earth god like quote here~

From the clutch of despair she rose like a surefire phoenix, just as he had suspected she would. This time, standing before the shrines with her offerings in places, she did not come alone. That was the greatest difference in the passage of time; when they last had spoken her solitude had been like a miasma of defeat and isolation wrapped around her winter shoulders. Even the one beside her had grown with the Icebound's presence. They were changed souls that stood before him, and the God smiled at that. The waves of the ocean against the ragged rocks of the shrines coalesced into his monstrous form, and he stepped from the loam like it was solid ground, depositing him before them without a drop of water to be seen on his coat. A paternal smile warmed his features, gazing down upon these two whose threads were becoming intertwined.

"Welcome Elsa. And Darwin," he noted with a twinkle in his eye. Perhaps he could not see where this friendship would take them, but he hoped it would flourish into something healthy and beautiful, as he hoped for every plant and sprout in his domain. Change was good, and Elsa was finally starting to bloom a little.

Glancing down at the proffered items, he hummed softly, making no move to utilize them just yet. Instead he turned his eyes to the pale mare before him, no longer so desperate in her pursuit of wholeness. No longer bursting from the seams of her skin with emotion. "You did well. Did you find what you were missing all along, Elsa? Do you still feel as though internally you are as blind as the eye you seek?" He needed her to tell him what she had accomplished, even though he had asked her for nothing else aside from the materials. Just because she had completed the literal task did not mean he didn't care for the progress she had made on the journey.

your faith was strong but you needed proof
Darwin’s reassurance helped the Icebound calm her initial fears. Up until then she wasn’t sure how the Earth God felt about her- she and him, regardless of what he thought, had been through a lot. The Earth God had seen her at both her highest and her lowest. So yes, when he did appear a fresh round of pent up anxiety burst forth from the pit of her stomach as she glanced toward Darwin, trying to distract her mind as the large deity approached.

There was a wave of relief when the God was neither hostile, nor overly friendly. It was the normal, usual tone expected of one his size and stature. As per usual, she was met with words meant to make her think. Elsa tilted her head a little, thinking of his unusual question. ”I am blind to a lot of things, as much as I hate to admit it” she began. Edgar cooed quietly, liking that the Icebound was once again forced to evaluate. ”I guess I was jaded, and hurt- but now my world feels far less lonely.” She shyly glanced toward Darwin before shuffling her nervously. ”I see things I haven’t before- but I do dearly miss being able to see the world.” Maybe it was a bit too presumptuous but she still did complete the quest to get her eyesight back.

Just because she achieved some higher power thinking did not mean the Icebound became any less selfish. She missed the full span of the world, and try as she might sometimes inner transcendence still didn’t make up for the little things.

The GOD of the EARTH

earth god like quote here~

The God smiled, and although Darwin was remaining suspiciously silent, it was clear that the bond between the two was strong. Although the God did not hope for an outcome quite like this one, he was pleased beyond measure that Elsa had Darwin had found each other, and that despite all that she had endured and all of her limitations, that Elsa could see how he could fit into her life.

"I am glad to hear that Elsa. And I do understand completely-" The God turned away from her, breathing in the air deeply into his lungs, and allowing himself an eyeful of the majesty all around them. Turning back to her, a gentle and shocking wet-less rain began to fall. It smelled like a summer afternoon sun shower, but left no watery trails on any of their bodies.

"Turn your eyes up Elsa, and see."

As soon as the water contacted her eye, the healing would begin.

Elsa's sight has been restored! And as an added bonus, if you would like, the once-blind eye can now glow blue if you want!
