☽ AELIN ☾

The dun girl needed to escape the confines of her sandy home. The pain of her father's passing still threatened to drown her, the images of his collapsed form played over in her mind. It felt as if she needed to physically escape the death and putting distance between herself and the sandy home would assist her in managing her grief. The Throat had already begun to move on after some inner fighting, what else was to be expected? The power vacuum was always what remained after a powerful figure fell, her father had been no different. The girl had no desire to remain while the Throat sorted out their final issues, instead she'd taken to the skies and fled to the open realm.

The sun was just beginning to rise as she landed beside the vast hole that broke up the land. While she'd never journeyed into the open abyss she'd heart that they very heart of Helovia beat openly inside. Stopping beside they only small bush for miles around she peered into the hole, eyeing the depths. Doing her best to not think about the last time she was here, Aelin began to descend into the heart of Helovia. As her hooves slipped slightly on the stone she paused to righten herself, glancing around to see if another was around to assist her. Seeing no one she took a deep breath and continued down. Just like she did when Hawke vanished, when her sisters and brothers left to pursue their own lives and now she would do the same with her father's passing. Their was no anger with these thoughts, only sadness for the brother she never got to grow up with and the siblings she never played with. Immense grief for her father flared up with these emotions, yet she pushed them down. This journey was about beginning to heal.

The dun bird became aware of the air growing cooler, shivering as she did. Already she missed the warmth offered by her sandy home. Then a crackling, snapping filled her ears and Aelin turned her gaze upon a large, quartz stone wall that glowed and allowed her to see into the fiery heart. The flames burned brightly, the power was unquestionably greater than anything she'd witnessed before. Continuing on she was faced with a number of different paths, each leading to it's own cove and other wonderful secret places. But which path should she choose? Hovering she glanced at the numerous options indecisively.

let the winds erase me,

like the memory of a kiss

The is cold and miserable currently, which is in turn making her cold and miserable. Though she’s concluded that winter will perhaps always make her miserable for more reasons than merely the cold. Because she can find relief from the wind and the chill behind the glass walls of the greenhouse, or south to the semi-warmer lands (it’s part of what brings her south today). But the walls and the sun cannot stop the memories, cannot force away the thoughts of everything that brought her to Helovia in the first place. It is a good home, certainly. It is nice to finally be allowed to choose her own path, and there’s much that she loves here.

But it had been the end of Orangemoon that she’d come to Helovia, and she remembers that first Frostfall here all too well. Her memories are bitter and miserable. She’d spent much of it wandering Helovia, wallowing in her own self-pity. There’d been a few friendly faces, but she’d kept largely to herself, had spent only a bit of time learning about and gathering herbs for the Edge. It had been hard to pull herself out of the hole that the loss of her family had left.

Her mother, father, and brother. There was no hope of seeing them again, except in nightmares and dreams and that strange dark cloud that made her relive her memories, and eventually gave her the moon-shaped horn that now hangs from her neck. And her sister. She has no idea what happened to the girl she’d left in the Threshold to find her own path. One moment Adelene was there, and the next she was gone. Lyanna can only hope one day she returns, but after a year, she has stopped holding on to hope.

She walked today, the sky in the Edge too blustery and cold even for her rather stubborn self to fly. She’d walked without real purpose, letting her legs simply take her south, and eventually she finds herself at the entrance to the Heart Caves. A place she has not gone, and even at the mouth of the cave, she can feel the chill damp area inside. The whole point had been to avoid the cold (and to run away from her own sad thoughts). Maybe the heart of Helovia could cast away the sadness that seems hell-bent on taking hold lately.

Slowly, she makes her way into the unfamiliar cave, quickly beginning to regret her decision. She likes forests and flying, not caves. But soon, a glowing wall catches her attention and she forgets about the walls pressing in on her from all sides. The light pulses, and soon, she realizes that it’s the heart of Helovia, visible behind a quartz wall. For a moment, she simply stops, watching with a strange fascination before finally noticing the dusty colored girl nearby. “Oh, hello,” she says, feeling stupid for not noticing the girl sooner. Corbin would yell at her, if he were still alive, for not paying more attention. “I’m not interrupting you, am I?”
