Dreams did not come often to the girl. But it was a reprieve from the real world, to fall away from reality utterly blanketed in unconsciousness. It did not matter whether or not she was visited with visions, only that her body could receive rest. Although, it did owe to a monotonous lifestyle; wake up, eat, wander about, sleep… repeat, and repeat; maybe a spar here or there.

Was she searching for something?

Perhaps.

But wherever that something was, it was hiding well within the trees, hidden away in snow, dormant and cold.

With a quiet sigh, she shifted from her resting place that night. Uncertain why her body would not fall into a deeper sleep; the youth had tried several times to close her eyes. And yet, it did not take her from the things that troubled her. Annoyed by these frivolous challenges, she dashed carelessly into the snow ahead of her. And once cleared of the trees, she shot out into the sky with a relieved breath. To feel the air's weight pressed against her skin and caress her feathers, it dissolved her trepidation and soothed – for a moment – all that clouded her mind.

And dark was the night, the world merely highlighted by the strength of the moon. The child had hardly interacted with the Gods, let alone the Goddess of the Moon. But Ru had her doubts, and rightly so. She could not depend on any of them, and did not expect their help in return. With so little information to reflect on these beings, it was hard to place any faith in their presence. Despite the idea that perhaps, they could help her, she doubted their benevolence – such things in life did not come that easy, after all.

At least it was beautiful, the moon, all silver and punctured with distant, grey scars. The stars were shining also, celestial bodies glimmering all the while the world stood still in darkness.

Though not all was silent, as something odd caught the young mare’s gaze. Where the moon’s light ceased outside the herd’s borders for several seconds. She blinked, perhaps something caught in her eyes? Despite her efforts it did not change, until it stopped and things appeared normal.

Obligated, though more curious than duty-bound, the pegasi maintained her elevation and closed in on the area. She wasn’t entirely camouflaged in the dark night. Moon’s rays could just as easily make out her feathered head, or the tips of her primaries. Regardless, she tried her best to keep quiet in the air – until she happened upon the duo. Words muffled, barely there.

Without question, she swooped in on them. Diving sharply – she’d been practicing that – and using her wings to back-pedal in an effort to stop her momentum. She braced for the frozen earth, and slid briefly before them with a low rumbling from her chest. Wings out stretched for balance.

She knew very little of the World’s Edge, so each of the individuals present were simply strangers to Ru. She hadn’t realized until now, that either one of them could potentially be intruders. Her nostrils flared to take in their scents. Energy coiling in the girl’s body, as she worked to determine the cause behind the white mare’s entry. She did not smell whole-heartedly from the World’s Edge, but how could she know for certain?

Delayed was her reaction when she realized the smell of blood was coming from her, the one with the transparent horn.

With a sharp frown she tilted her head, and trilled in a curious tone. While staring at the forelimb, cut and bleeding into the snow.
