The water felt wonderful, jumping up his sides, pulling the dirt and filth from his coat. Not that he really cared what he looked like, but it was... Refreshing. He managed to roll right over in the shallow depths, effectively dousing both sides of his mottled coat. Wings sure got in the way, but they too needed a cleanse. Gradually, he found his feet again and rose with a great groan, massive weight heavy on his stocky pillars. He wondered often what it would be like to be graceful- thin, or lithe, with long legs and the ability to move without a second thought. It would be very nice, he guessed, not to have to put so much effort into almost every motion. Walking was easy, and trotting wasn't too bad. Cantering and galloping just felt ungaily, much like flying.

It was almost a curse to have his wings. He barely used them, as it made him feel ridiculous. He needed a great run up to get himself off the ground, and once in the air, he seemed to dangle oddly, not at all magnificent. Even in his youth he hated watching all the other foals take off with a sprightly spring, instantly meters in the air. Rather then suffer mockery, he would stay on the ground with those who could not fly. It did not keep him from taunts, of course. There was nothing that could keep him from ridicule except being alone.

Which of course, he was not. Hearing someone walking towards his little patch of paradise, Nero stared over at the figure. For a moment, his ears were forwards as he struggled to make out who it was, and then they flickered back upon his skull as he took in the familiar build. She was not a threat to anyone except herself. He remembered her crying in the Threshold, and her utter self-loathing when faced with her guilt. He had felt some sort of pity for her, but only momentarily. She had, after all, bought it on herself. "You. He muttered, dropping his head to have a swallow of water while he watched the spotted mare.

He found it strange how eager she seemed to be to please him. He had shown no kindness to her, but had unfortunately revealed, due to the presence of a foal, he wasn't as nasty as he appeared. Even so, he was sure he could rectify that situation with a few choice words and a touch of blood. Hopefully his sullen attitude would be enough. It was remarkable how he managed to convince himself time and time again to do the littlest amount to scare others away... Perhaps in the hope that this time, they would stay. He shook away the whispered voice, half-heartedly bringing his attention back to the butterfly winged mare. "Whenever I can find a place where I am alone, yes. Otherwise, this place is far too well-populated, Myrrine." The stallion grumbled, a pinch of whining in his tone. Pathetic. Why did he say her name? It was like he wanted her to know he remembered it or something.
