i want to be wild, beautiful and free
“I remember Alysanne,” she says, and there is what might be the bare hint of a smile on her lips. Or perhaps it’s just imagined. Though she recalls her failure in the Threshold with Dragomir and Alysanne all too well. She would laugh at it, if she were the type to laugh at all. “I hope the Edge treats you well.” And though her voice is as deadpan and emotionless as it always is, she does mean this. Dragomir has done nothing to earn her ire.
But soon they are off to make crowns and as quickly as they finish that task, the Yeti wants more. Of course he wants more. One thing wouldn’t be enough for the prize in his horns, now would it? She might have hoped for easy, but by now, she has learned nothing here is easy. This time, he wants a snack. Of freaking course.
She sets off to the water, because it’s likely her only option of managing to get an appropriate Yeti snack. Not that she knows what an appropriate Yeti snack actually would be. Soon enough, she finds a nice body of water. There are various fish swimming about, and a handful of crustaceans. She begins to draw on her magic, making the seaweed grow and grow and grow until a collection of shrimp, a few crabs, and a handful of fish have become hopelessly tangled in the seaweed.
She wades into the water, dipping her head under to rip at the seaweed, dragging heaps of it onto the shore with her catch still tangled. It is there she waits for the creatures to suffocate, because she’s not about to kill them. The crabs hold out the longest – stupid buggers – but eventually they all lay still. She has no idea if the Yeti likes seafood, let alone ones with shells, but it’s the best she can do.
She drags her catch back to the Yeti, making sure to add enough seaweed beneath the fish and crabs so they don’t end up covered in snow and dirt. When she returns, she deposits the pile of seaweed and seafood in front of the Yeti. She detangles the fish, shrimp and crabs from their makeshift net, and places them nicely on top of the seaweed. Probably he doesn’t want to eat the seaweed, but it was there if he wanted it. If not, it made for a decent plate. “A snack,” she says, adding nothing more and retreating back to her place by Dragomir before the Yeti decided she’d make a better snack.
