The feasts they bring are met with gusto, the great beast shoveling and spewing food as an active volcano might stone and soot. Firedancer shuts onyx eyes against the outpouring of viscera from the Yeti's lips; he coughs and chokes on an offered bird, and the girl's magic shifts within her, a need to aid even this brute rising hot within her breast. But the crisis passes; the creature is fine; and the girl settles back into an uneasy stance, wondering what else he shall demand of those assembled, the needy and greedy who so covet his prize.

Something soft,, the Yeti demands. A pillow for me head. Fire Dancer frowns, rising up on slender toes to peer across the barren steppe. There is brush, to be sure, pine and moss and the first signs of flowers; she sets out, determination hardening the lines of her face, to gather these. A fallen branch is found, a great thing still rich in scent and needle, cast down in a recent storm, and the waif-like child takes it in her mouth, making it a sleigh for her future bounty.

By the time she returns her branch is piled high: moss and lichen have their place, grass and the stems of flowers another. She brings the collection back to the beast, but is not satisfied with it- it doesn't look like a pillow, a bed, so much a wayward patch of wood somehow transplanted into the snow. But the copper child is a resourceful thing, and a familiar thread of magic still hangs in the air. She reaches for it, bronze and iron with the scent of rain, following its hazel trail to the hybrid mare whose offering of food was eaten first. Dark eyes narrow; she knows this woman, recognizes her from that most dismal of days, when Lace was dead and stolen from them. For a moment fury rises in her breast, and pain, and grief too deep for her to bear. She wants to accost, to harass, to demand-

She inhales sharply, and the magic comes with her. If Natraj were here he would tell her to let it go, that there are more important things. If Natraj were here he would calm his sister down.

Today she has to soothe herself. She sets to work.

The finished product is a slight dip in the frozen ground, pushed up against an outcropping of rocks to protect it from the elements and thieves. The furrow is as long as the beast is tall, and warmed by the borrowed magic that helped her make it. At the top of it is a small incline, with a hollowed out center; Fire Dancer places moss and flowers here, a soft and fragrant place for the beast to lie his head. The rest of the bed is lined with pine, and as the girl steps back she admires her work, heart thundering in her ears as she awaits the judgment of this, the beast who holds her fate.
