The Yeti seemed largely pleased with the snacks. He tosses a bird in his mouth whole and she has to will herself not to look away. She already feels terrible for killing a bird, despite the fact killing it had been a kindness. It is more than she can take to watch him chomping on the loon, and then soon spitting bones back up with a few choice pieces of who knows what. She steps back, trying to avoid the flying projectiles though she’s sure a bone ends up tangled in her mane.

She looks, almost helplessly (though there’s a laugh trapped on her lips at the ridiculousness as well) to Yael. But soon the Yeti is setting them with another task, saying he needed one more thing. She hoped it was the last thing, because she didn’t think she could stomach watching him eat anymore. But for now, she’s glad to have the task that takes her away from the Yeti and the flying bones and meat and…

Lyanna cuts that train of thought off right there, directing her thoughts to what she could make a pillow out of instead. Thankfully, it is Birdsong and not Frostfall, because at least things were alive and growing. She sets off to find the cottongrass that she has seen before. On the way she finds some long, flat blades of grass. She rips a large pile of these from the ground and spends some time weaving them together, in and out, until they overlap one another in something of a sheet. She repeats the process until she has two sheets of grass, securing the edges together with haphazard knots of thinner grass. It’s far from perfect, but it will do nicely.

Soon the two sheets resemble a pillow, still open on one side. She keeps going, finally finding the cottongrass, and begins picking. As she goes, she stuffs the cotton into the pillow, which she has since tucked behind a wing to carry. Her neck aches from constantly craning it around, but she keeps stuffing. She uses anything she finds along the way that is soft to supplement the cottongrass, including fallen bird feathers and moss. Soon, the pillow is full and practically fluffy. Finding some more small grasses, she ties off the remaining open side and makes her way back to the group.

There’s a collection of makeshift pillows being offered to the Yeti, and she can’t help but smile a bit at how clever Helovians are. There are some brilliant ideas, including a bed. She adds her pillow to the others, nodding at the Yeti. “A pillow for your head,” she says, before retreating back to Yael and Bella.
