The Dauntless had been around Helovia too long to be naive. He trusted little, and his trust was no longer in the Gods. Each one had fallen at a different time--the Sun when he burned his herdland; the Moon when she murdered his love and the others; Spark was never able to hold it; now, standing here as the creature revealed itself to truth, the behemoth lost his trust and faith in the Earth.

It burned in his chest like liquid fire.

His eyes hardened.

Nyx leapt forward, knocking his granddaughter her child out of the way, but being claimed by the jaws of the bone monster. While the gray mare had never been his friend, he did not wish to see her harmed in such a manner. Loretta lowered her weight and snarled beside him, her tail erect and every hair standing on end. Kill it, Archibald. She demanded, her amber eyes fiery and furious.

Helovians scrambled around him, but two voices stuck out. One was someone who would never lose his trust: Ophelia. The other was a mare he did not trust: Ampere.

Fall back!

Fight!

The Dauntless had never been one to retreat, and he was not about to start now.

The Dauntless lifted a huge, solid hoof and slammed it against the earth. Immense, powerful tremors shook the ground and moved out in waves toward Kaos. Simultaneously, he summoned flint and threw it at the bone monster, projectile flames bursting and igniting.

ARCHIBALD the DAUNTLESS
Only the dead have seen the end of the war.
