PALADIN
The sound of iron shocks is stuck in my head

Paladin stood over his pregnant mate once more wondering why he had ever agreed to having another child. He grimaced, watching again as she shifted in pain, and felt helpless. The stallion hated that feeling, and though all of his children were a blessing, the means in which they emerged to this world was barbaric. He stood close to Soleil in the forest, trying to protect her from the snow. If his magic did not cause so much pain, he would use it to protect her from the cold. But no. He was a tool of destruction and pain. How did he deserve such kindness?

This winter had not been kind to Paladin's psyche, especially not with the advent of his two sisters and Donovan was still lost to Isilme. He had left the throne to three, and he could only hope that they would honor his teachings. What would happen if they did not? Helovia would be thrust into a war of the species, and his daughters, sons, and family would be thrown into the fray as hybrids and mixed lovers. Fools. All of them.

Soleil seemed to be in less stress this time, and when a grey, dark colt settled into the snow, he smiled. Was there to be another? The trend of Soleil giving birth to twins was almost tradition now, but he was happy to only have her body go through one birth this time around. Paladin watched as Soleil cleaned the boy off and chuckled when he glanced up into her eyes with adoration. Loving Soleil was the simplest task.

The dark, crimson eyed stallion approached then, his massive hooves settling close to the young boy. His heart swelled with protection with he saw that one of his hooves was nearly the size of the boy's shoulder. Paladin leaned down and gently nuzzled his son between the ears, loving the name that Soleil had chosen for the strong lad. "Welcome to the world, Soren," he rumbled in his deep, quiet voice. Paladin then worked with his hooves, striking the snow free from the earth so that it would not melt and freeze his child.

Frostfall was a delicate time to bear children, and he would not allow his son to suffer through the snow unaided.
