The fairy is called Quentin, she absorbs with a coy giggle, and wide smile, her excited bashfulness slowly flaking away the more and more evident it becomes that the stallion is as delighted to meet her as she is him. Meeting his eyes, so warm and wonderful, the girl wonders why it is she has never met someone quite like him before now. What a shame, that was! She thinks, her small hooves dancing beneath her, despite her best attempts to be ladylike. She was only a filly still, after all.

"Oh, it’s a pleasure to meet you too, Sir Quentin!" she beams, curtsying as the colorful man does so, her layered cloak rippling down over her shoulders, and kissing the grasses below. With her eyes landing on the splendid gold dragon stretching its wings and arching its neck for display, her gaze flutters up towards the frighteningly beautiful dragon woman. Her scaled face was severe, and the barbs along her body all the more scary, but there was something in the softness of her voice, and the kindness in her eyes, that left Maude feeling enthralled, rather than truly afraid.

The scene is so splendid that the child wants to dance and sing, to streak across the meadow with her new friends, trilling their hopes and love to the sky. Her new friends, however, are adults, and the girl has lived long enough to know that most grown ups stopped frolicking at some point in their lives (and that not a one of them can define exactly when or why they decided to become so serious, but that she’d understand some day). So, instead, she dances in place, her mind already working the words and rhythm to a rather dramatic song about the afternoon that she had parlayed with magical beasts beneath the Tallsun skies.

"There is a river, not far!" cheerfully shares the damsel, though, surely, Amaris knows about the largest river in Helovia, by now, "and the groves nearby might have apples in them, if the deer haven’t found a way to them yet. They’ll be tart, but they’re almost better that way, I think."

Glancing out towards the last place she’d seen round fruits high overhead, she wonders how much closer she is now than she had been last year, when she, Katua, and Zubari had snuck away to investigate the nearby wild lands. It had taken all they’d had to knock a few loose to snack on. She bets she could actually grab one, now!

"Then of course, there is home," she smiles, in a dreamy sort of way, the sort of expression that reads how very much she loves the World’s Edge, and how it has never offered her anything but hope, love, and warmth for her loyalty; how she expects her new friends to have a home, too, not quite understanding that, for many, there is no home to go to, "the World’s Edge is always cool, probably ‘cause the Goddess of the Moon likes it that way, being the Night Goddess and all. Where do you guys live?"

how to be brave
how to love when I'm afraid
