What Otter Foolishness [ COMMON NSS DROP ]

A small winged boy comes along with Vastra in the direction that she takes, following the one pup deviating from their family. He introduces himself and she quietly responds because she knows it would be impolite not to. “Vastra.” She gives her name with a quick nod, as though gesturing to herself. The fewer words the filly could use, the better.

“Okay.” Is the only response she can think of to his declaration of his rank. She doesn’t know what being a guardian of the Throat had to do with finding a lost otter pup - he doesn’t seem any more capable of finding it than she does. But she does like the fact that he is from her home. It makes him a little less strange and sinister than the other horses that have gathered, who are wandering in all directions. A golden mare flies near them too but Vastra doesn’t try to strike a conversation. Her attention is on the wayward otter pup that they were following, anyway, and the art of conversation is utterly lost on the red dun filly.

Besides, a moment later her attention is grabbed by a terrible sound - the sound of a little creature in danger. Her brown eyes don’t have to search long to find that the lost otter pup is floating down the river near them, clinging for life to something very egg-like. Instantly, the other horses are moving to help - one of the mares lowers her antlers into the water and another has made a net-like object.

Vastra doesn’t have anything that she can use, but she does have her wings. With a bold leap she splashes into the river as fast as she can to take up a spot near Weaver and spreads her wings as wide as they can - so that if the antlered mare has no luck and the otter-and-egg combo evades the nets, she could use her wings to slow down their progress enough that someone else might be able to help them.
