The old stallion is visibly less than pleased with having to do something in order to receive a prize, but the parrot’s enthusiasm and seemingly endless supply of colored, sparkling dust keeps him at least partially interested, his salt and pepper muzzle edging past the makeshift starting line to peer into the darkness of the three tunnels. His ears swivel slowly, apprehensive of the unexplained ‘reasons’ the parrot avoided some of them, trying to at least escape dismemberment and death, but no overtly ominous rumbles or growls of ferocious beasts meet his quizzical expression, so he toes the line along with everyone else, if not quite as enthusiastically.

The moment the feather drops from the parrot’s grasp two figures rush forward from either side of the old black, leaving him braced and blinking in their sudden wake. Shaking his thin neck, he turns down the leftmost tunnel simply because no one else has done so thus far, plodding instead of charging, wanting to preserve his energy at least until someone comes running up from behind, though he does spur himself to a jarring trot as he passes their feathered host, not wanting to disqualify himself by some bullshit semantics technically.

Once inside, he slows again, listening to the sound of his own and other’s hoof beats inside the muffling confines of earth and stone. All he can smell is cold, metallic air. All he can see is darkness. "Don’t let me walk right into our deaths.” He mumbles, only the snake at his brow able to discern the worry under his irritated tone. The young python shimmies farther down his bonded’s face, offering the comfort of touch and lending his own unique senses to the cause, his tiny forked tongue reaching out to sift through the darkness around them.
