The small colt’s little nose begins to sniff as he at last said the words. He feels his fears welling up inside him, pushing outward a making his eyes water. Within his heart continues to beat faster, carried on by the continued fears. When he feels the warmth of his Da’s body the small colt’s sniffles turn into a hiccupping sob and he buries himself into the gold’s coat and shimmering gold cloak, lanky uncontrollable legs kicking to push in.
The warmth swept through his cold bones and it calms him, stills him and his heart. He turns his head back out, but still keeps it against Da’s shoulder. Sea blue eyes look up to his crowned head, gazing up at the stars, then back down. In the simple ways of a child, as he snuggles close, he looks from his Da’s coat to his. He had the same leaf on his head…Ma said he’d have the same horns though they were but little nubs on his head still. But the shoulder marking…his Da didn’t have that.
The gold reaches round to collect him again closer, but this time the colt sees something past his Da and it makes him scramble outward, pushing his little head under the gold’s. Those small pale rocks lay not far where he had been admiring them before the gold had passed. “Wait, my rocks!” It was the first non-stuttering thing he’d said, but it was also the first time the colt had ever been distracted from where he was…or who…or what?
