The sun was rising on a dull winter day to find the young Galahad out from his nest again. This time he had permission…the small family had had a chat about his adventure a week or so ago. Of course they had not showed him what ‘in trouble’ was at first, as he still clung tightly to his fears, but after it had subsided he found out what trouble was. He hadn’t exactly liked it either, but he also had not burned. Though he still greatly feared the burning…distance was making it easier. He still heard Mama and Da whisper about it though. They thought he slept but the young child still rarely did. Da still thought they might come back…something about magic. He also heard them talk about Kaos…but the youth never grasped much beyond the name.

He hadn’t been excited about getting ‘permission’ though. He hadn’t even asked for it, but Da thought it would be good. Galahad may be knew to the world, but he didn’t know what good it could have to go off on his own. Not that he was alone of course. Somewhere not far was Haldir, ever trailing him, but commanded to keep his distance…again ‘good for him’. The young colt may snort at the ridiculousness of it, but Thranduil hadn’t come to these decisions easily. He hoped though that perhaps the rising strain of curiosity in the colt might lead him beyond whatever terrors he feared still gripped him. Besides since Haldir’s slip up the stag was a much more determined to get this babysitting thing right.

Even with all of that Galahad still might not have been so bold to actually venture out, but he had his own light. On the nubs of each horn, still barely clinging on, rose two white bones etched with gold sun runes and, held by sliding on. All giving him the appearance of much larger horns, and when his grew in they would act as a second tip. They were even sharp, like Da’s, and at each tip was a small ever burning flame. This flame was different than the others though, this one did not burn. The idea of non-burning fire, which only brought a small warmth to the touch brought more comfort to the little one’s heart than a thousand soft words.

So that’s how he found himself here, bold enough to walk along, but not quite brave and fearless in his step, nor with any real purpose other than to pass the time till he could go back and stop being this silly ‘independent’. That’s why he came to a stop when he saw her. Another creature his size, walking just as he. One hark tilts back in a half thought to Haldir who shouldn’t be far behind. He wants to turn, to leave. Could you do that? Cloven hooves shift and he feels his heart inside his chest beat a little faster. The pale gold colt, still thin and short haired looks over the older one shrinking back from her confident glide. His mind hums, prodding him forward. Could he still leave or would that be really wrong now. He tilts his head in the growing thought and feels the click on the bone on his horn….it reminds him, strengthens his nerve. He swallows and a smooth, calm, albeit slow word finally releases. “Hello.” His heart still grows faster in his chest, but for once he was too preoccupied to notice.
