White eyes merely watch the girl. To all her comments and questions the bird says nothing. Could he speak? The creature had never tried, there had never been a need. Besides, it preferred its own songs. So the poor girl does not get an answer. Of course, there wasn’t an answer to give anyway. Neither Galahad nor the fire bird knew how either form too its place…only that his fast paced heart seemed to cause it. Emotions….feelings…

The bird gives no notices to the girl’s grief of the squirrels. Whereas some other more gentle soul might have consoled her, this fire bird did not. She had done it. She had killed them. Nothing beyond that mattered to the phoenix.

He did though yield as he saw something sparkle below her eye. Gold head tilts, and beak clacks to see the tear run down her cheek. Head tilts the other way, trilling out another sigh of melody. He was trying to understand, to comprehend her. Unlike Galahad the fire bird struggled to understand the girl’s emotions and her guilt. Though he and the colt shared the same mind, this would not be the first time the two sides saw the world differently. Her pleas fall on helpless souls. The bird draws back to himself. Couldn’t she see….there was nothing to be done. The fire bird would remain, until something changed, which neither he nor the colt within him could understand. Last time it had been sleep, who knows now.

The girl turns away, and the gold bird tilts its head again. But there was nothing more to be done. It turns again on its branch, the few long tail feathers brushing over again. Wings raise, ready to take off, but stop-

Crashing through the underbrush the dark stag finally appears in front of the fire bird, and behind the girl. The phoenix trills again in greeting, and rests back. Haldir was not equally glad to see the creature. He instead groans audibly. Thranduil would kill him.

Moon eyes look behind the bird, still siting upon the log to see the girl. Large ears fold back and his head rises higher, coming forward to the log. Had she done this? The stag knew the colt’s magic needed a trigger. Was it her? No….she was crying…The stag snorts a greeting, still wary, and comes to the fire bird’s side. The companion reaches to nuzzle the bird, and the phoenix allows it before turning back around to face the girl.
