GASSUL
The realm of Warring Clans

HISTORY
♠ ________________________________________________________ ♠
There are places in this world where there are no gods, where magic lay dormant and things like unicorns and dragons belong only in fairy tales. Gassul is one of those. It is a vast land of mountains, forest and plains, a wild country inhabited by large herds of equines. While the land in big it is not nearly big enough to host all those horses, and thus there is a constant war being waged over resources, land and members.

The largest and most dominant clan is called Zirga, a herd governed by a system of inheritable monarchy, where the leading family is constant and other ranks are earned on the battlefield.

Monarchs hold the highest position, followed by a cast of trusted advisors. Below them serve highly regarded and capable knights, who in turn command the soldiers and keep watch over the commoners. Horses are trained in warfare from a young age, with foals being separated from their mothers at the age of eight months. They learn the established codex of conduct, are taught how to fight, how to make use of the land in a way that will keep it fertile, to honor the herd and the rulers and protect those that need you.
Then a choice is given, between returning back to the common rabble or to serve within the army, holding a chance of climbing in rank. It is common practice for mares to serve within the soldier ranks, for there is no need to keep up the numbers through breeding; it happens anyway, even though the rulers of all the herds try to keep their numbers at a reasonable size.

Four other clans of notable size are the Velnia, Sventa, Plona and Tikras. Relations between them vary, with alliances constantly being formed and broken - the only thing they have in common is a shared hatred for the Zirga, who they view as elitist, too numerous and without honor. Breeding between the clans is unusual, and any offspring is largely regarded with distrust.

Six years ago, a volcano that had lain dormant within the vast mountain range to the east began to erupt. It spread chaos through the herds, causing many of them to separate and disperse. Many died in the catastrophe, and life since then has been a struggle for survival. Yet the stubborn clans persist, bravely clinging to the land that is their home and somehow managing to carve out an existence for themselves.

LOCATION
♠ ________________________________________________________ ♠
Travel to the north and east until the forest of the Threshold lie well behind you. Turn toward the south, and run with the sun caressing your back from east to west, across mountains chains and desert wastelands.
Leave the mainland behind as it ends in a tropical paradise, and take to the sea. Be not afraid, for though the warm waters may seem endless, within half a day you shall reach the first of many islands. Follow the archipelago as it turn gradually to the west, and leave for solid land once more.

A year has passed since you left the borders of Helovia, but there is still a long way to go.

Continue traveling west toward the setting sun and leave the ocean behind, until you've forgotten why you travel and where you are going. Then, as you fight your way across a vast mountain range where the tips seem to prod the belly of the very heavens, roots deep enough to reach into the bowels of the earth, a vast landscape will spread out beneath you.

Behold the vast forests and wide-stretched plains, the clear lakes and the enormous herds of horses that live there.

Rejoice, for you have found the land of Gassul.

BIRTHRIGHT

Not many have made the long and arduous journey from Gassul in the far south west to the lands of Helovia.

You're very welcome to let your character hail from Gassul. There are many clans to choose from, Zirga being the largest; if characters are not from the same clan, then it is highly likely that they will have been at war with one another.

If you would like to be related to Lace, send a PM to his account and we can discuss the details. :)
