How could they, right under his own nose! Angrily the young protector stormed around the campfire in the Edge. The red roan had been different, kind of. He did not know her, she was not blood family to him... She was NOT the mother of two young children that needed her! his mother however had been different. His baby sister had been the one to alert him of his mother's disappearance. He had never felt so powerless in his life. Not since he had become a warrior. It had been his job to protect them and he had failed not once but twice. Black eyes searched the dark skies, before leaving for a moment to find where their mother had been taken across the boarder. He soon found his mother's hoofprints and along side them hoofprints he did not know. Silently he returned to the campfire and his little sister. He just did not know what to do, other than to stand guard over the one he had left.

Little Azale lay near the campfire, the light playing across her pale coat and spotted wings. She tucked her head in tight, wishing for the warmth of her mother or Kamien. The little feathered colt may of been brash at the herd meeting but he had fast taken a place in her heart. Now with her mother suddenly ripped from her, she found she needed him. Orange eyes peered into the darkness, waiting to see if the colt would go looking for her mother as she had.

Kamien
It is not rational to believe in miracles, for miracles are by nature irrational.

It was growing to become a rather common occurrence that people disappeared around him. First his mother, then the Earth God, and now Solstice. He was becoming accustomed to the feeling of loss, used to viewing it as a natural state. Young as he were, he was learning how to cope with it and still function somewhat normally. What annoyed him the most in this particularly case was the fact that the painted mare had left behind not himself, but Moniet. The girl was not like him. She was bright and cheerful and infinitely innocent in a way he probably never would be, a light to his darkness. He didn't want her to change, but without a mother there to offer protection, warmth and a solid point in an ever changing world it was bound to happen.

The little colt was too young to realize that Soleil wouldn't have left them voluntarily. Even though the double set of tracks and multiple scents suggested that something was awry, he had yet to learn of things like war, racism and the ways of the underworld. Kidnapping, murder, blackmailing... They had yet to enter his vocabulary, and so the only explanation he could come up with was that the painted mare had decided to leave without telling anyone.

He had tried to follow the imprints made upon the cold ground, but lost track before they even crossed the border. Frustrated and hungry the little pegasus turned around, searching his way back to his sister just after her - their older brother returned. Aquamarine eyes were somewhat cold as they watched him stand over the small frame of the four-winged seraph, as the foal shifted the frustration towards his own inexperience onto the older colt.

"Why aren't you following her?" he asked and tripped closer, legs folding once he reached the side of the filly and lowering him down to lie beside her. A wing stretched out to cover her back in an attempt to shelter her from the situation, small and sadly inadequate for the task. Nothing could shield Azale Moniet from the solitude, and he blamed Soleil and Aaron for allowing it to last.
"Bring her back, brother, if you can." There was too much bite in the voice of such a young one, too much intelligence for an undeveloped mind. Not even a season old he ought to be shivering and sad like the foal beside him, longing for a warmth and comfort that was no longer there. But no. Instead he was cold, calm and thinking clearly (somewhat), and definitely expected the supposed man of the family to make some sort of effort to improve the situation.

The arrival of the feathered colt was not missed by Aaron, as the young ones voice was clearly heard. Why was he not going after her. Every part of his body longed to go chasing after his mother. Calmly he spoke "Because where she has been taken, there are more who will not allow me to simply take her back.. I need the rest of the herd, or I to will fall." His eyes lightened slightly to a dark brown when he looked to the pair. The colt was at least trying to sooth his sister in a way he could not. The colt's next words were harsh and sent the young stallion over the edge of anger. "I intend to." Dark eyes looked out into the night, hoping another member of the herd would soon arrive to help.

The arrival of warmth was not ignored by Azale either. Gently she nosed against his shoulder and half heartedly lipped at the feathers there. She whispered softly "Momma was taken, she'll come back.... Right?" Orange eyes looked from the aquamarine eyes of Kamien to the dark brown ones of her brother. One of them had to hold the answer right?

Aaron sighed and tried to lift his baby sisters spirits. "Of course she will." Or i'll die to bring her back. Where was Mirage, Vikram, Torasin, Smoke, Rishima.... anyone who could help at a time like this? He snorted and began to pace back and forth impatiently. Where were those that were supposed to be the higher ranks. Would he have to go to the other herds for help?

They weren't forgotten. Neither Kiara's nor Solstice's disappearances had gone by unnoticed, and none would forget about the young ones that had been left without their mother.
It wasn't without a sense of relief that Lace slipped off the still uncomfortable role as an aspiring crafter and returned to the more familiar ways that had accompanied him for so many years. Gone were the jovial and friendly man who had spoken so freely during the meeting, replaced instead by something silent and not entirely harmless.

A quiet anger seethed beneath the mask of icy calm he wore when branches parted and let him out into the small clearing, the flames of the fire making shadows dance across his muscled frame. He approached the small family with dragon in tow, reaching down to give the foals a soft nudge of reassurance. "Don't worry, we'll get your mother back" he said softly, breathing a stream of warm air over Azale Moniet and tugging slightly at the downy lock of hair between Kamien's ears before the attention turned to Aaron.

Ears moved on top of the poll, pricking forward before turning to the sides in a vigilant, alert way that showed he was expecting anything to happen. Two times their borders had been breached; what was to say it wouldn't happen again?

"I'm glad to see you haven't done anything rash. Many would have taken off before thinking things through, trying to resolve the situation on their own" he said quietly and watched the young stallion through steady golden eyes. The gaze held sympathy for the colt, shared the worry and the anger for the sake of those who had been taken. "Let's wait for a wile longer to see who else might be willing to join; we'll leave before dawn, follow their trail and make sure to bring Kiara and Solstice back."

Years of battle and a life of constant uncertainty had made the stallion used to taking care of himself, and without even thinking about it he immediately took command over the situation. Until someone more suited appeared he would lead the rescue group, making sure to bring their comrades back and make sure that young Aaron didn't do anything stupid. So far he had acted admirably by assessing the situation and wait for backup, but who knew how far his ropes could be stretched before they snapped? This was his mother after all, and had it not been for the fact that he had acted well during the Invasion, Lace most likely wouldn't have let him come at all.
