The scream of the rabbit was heartbreaking. It'd be better to end the life of it then let it go on living with broken legs, so she brought her hooves upon the rabbit one last time. Azale gazed down mournfully at the little creature, her orange eyes sad, hoping she had ended the bunny's life for good.
Azale's attention was adverted to a thin tree with a chipmunk perched high upon it's long, dead branches. The fall from a height like that was sure to break it's back, to end it's life so suddenly short. She held her breath as she approached the tree, making sure the chipmunk wasn't moving.
The filly turned so her rear end faced the bark of the dead tree. It was so thin and weak, even a swift buck from a foal could ramble it's branches. Azale bunched up her hind legs, letting out a little grunt as her hooves slammed into the bark of the tree. She was breathless from the kick, and quickly searched around, looking to see if the chipmunk had fallen to it's death.
Too many emotions to count were spiraling out of control in Azale. Guilt, suspense, happiness, fearfulness...why was she feeling this way? She needed to be happy that she had come so far in her quest, but it was a hard thing to do with lives ending all around you. Maybe a more civil magic would've been better for her, instead of the deadly type she had bartered for.
But no. Protection above all else, even if that means a couple squirrels died.
