Seeking refuge from the unbearable heat of the sun, Korra had slumped down beneath an old pine, slumbering through the worst hours of the day. At night, when the moon rose mighty and full, she would return to life with replenished energy. This blistering heat was getting on her sore nerves, making her even more irritable and impatient than usual. As a consequence, she chose to seclude herself from the others for a while, not wanting to create a rift between her and the other members of the herd. The savage stretched out her nape on the ground, eyes slipping closed… But then she smelled it.

Smoke. Her eyes were at once wide open, head raised to see if she could locate the source. Then she could hear it as well, the flames crackling, and the heat so intense it knocked the wind out of her. Jumping to her feet, the large pine above her suddenly caught fire, turning into a roaring inferno of flames; Korra felt the panic, leaping forward, soon finding herself engulfed in flames. She could smell burnt hair, seared flesh, and the smoke was choking her. Around her, the other wildlife was fighting for their life as well, running blindly into the flames that seemed to stretch on and on.

Breaking through the undergrowth, Korra was finally free of the burning forest. She threw herself on the ground, rolling around to extinguish a couple of flames that were crawling down the pelt of her back. There was no pain, not at this point, her adrenaline made sure to spare her of any sensation. Getting back on her feet, she realized she had burning vines tangled around her antlers, eyes darting around with fury to locate the fool that did this. The barbarian only found what she had expected; the sun god, watching with thrill as the flames were ruining their home. At that point, she knew her odds were bad, but the rage was blinding. It was her duty to protect this home from any harm, and right now this asshole was turning it into charcoal.

She hardly noticed Hellena, only saw a figure out the corner of her eye. A horrible, raw scream crawled from her lips, tearing the air asunder, as the savage threw herself at the sun god, antlers aimed at his throat. Her odds were poor, but she could not stand there, watching. Action was her only way of persuasion, so she shut off her thoughts and let her instinct roar.
