It was not for the sake of the herd members of this land that this dark mare happened across the World’s Edge today. The scent of burning had infected the air of most of Helovia, and instead of curl away from it, Mirage had to investigate. Her brothers, giant that they were, flanked her sides, having been the ones to inform her of the Sun God’s fury originally, they were eager to help. Her sister, brought up the rear, a shadow with moonlight etched upon her hide, always curious to the happenings of the realm.

The siblings were the definition of balance; one who led them, a mare, whose coat bore no markings bar that of a golden dragon, and whose soul contained magic of the Light. The brothers, named from Fire and Shadow, needed the other to survive; they were always less of themselves when the other was not there to act as a buffer. The sister, a ray of moonlight and darkness, showed that the brighter one shines the darker their shadow falls. A golden dragon also decorated the skies above the trio, and she represented the fire that existed with the charred little mare.

Balance was important, it was critical to the survival of things. Darkness and Light needed each other to survive, just as Fire and Wind did, and without the supporting effects of Water and Earth, none of the others would exist. In saying that, without all of the others, there would be no cause for Water or Earth to exist – the elements existed with each other for a reason.

Apparently this reason had become skewed, lost, forgotten, in the minds of an angry God.

The siblings knew of rage. They knew of a fire that burned within their souls, gifted to them by their beloved father. It was a red haze that overtook all other senses, an out of control, unpredictable state that each of them fought to control every second. Madyrn, being the most like his father in personality, was the most prone to let his rage show – if not for his brother, his constant comrade, he would be unbearable.

It was for the lands that Mirage led them here, for these lands had the sacred blessing of the Moon Goddess. But it would be like the weasel of a Sun God to act during the day against his sister, and the siblings wanted to weep at the loss of such precious land. Silently they came, now two sisters side by side, with brothers manning the outer; four equines defining the balance of the elements, to stand by the current King of the Edge.

Golden eyes flicked to the frosty one’s, Mirage acknowledged him as the Edge’s King, though not her own King. She wondered idly whether the presence of herself and her siblings would cause strife in the politics of it all; there was a time when Mauja had opened his borders to Mirage and her kin – but frankly, she did not care. She did not stand here for him, nor really for herself – but for her Goddess, who could not stand here when the Sun was high in the sky.

“Your point has been made, Lord Solar.” Mirage’s voice was strong, and cut clearly across the surrounds, though she didn’t need to shout, she was simply able to project it with such power and authority as naturally as the grace with which she held herself. Their limbs were scorched from trekking across the burnt lands, their hearts sorrowed – they would defend themselves, but a war against a God was not one they felt like plunging into blind and without thought.
