ice cold man watches earth die, eternal winter takes its reign

He might stand before her and her siblings, eyes on them, tired mind attentive to their words, but his ears kept flickering to and fro, listening to what went on behind him. d'Artagnan and Kou seemed to have lost each other for a moment, he could hear the sound of his body upon the now-moist ground as he looked - and found. She sounded genuinely worried, and he fought the urge to smile. Instead, he let his ears flicker forward again, listening to Mirage. Ah, he thought, not surprised by the cause of her visit. Behind him, his ash-streaked tail swished tiredly - it was habit to do it, but he nearly winced each time the hairs struck a charred spot. He forced a sad smile onto his face, nodding. "I wish they were in better shape," he told her sorrowfully. "But I am certain she appreciates you coming here, Mirage." But I don't. His eyes went to the two stallions with her, before going back to her black form. "Thank you." He managed to push an ounce of warmth into his voice, watching her leave, but he wanted to spit after her. He was convinced she could offer a great deal more than mere condolences if she chose to. He guessed she didn't give one whit for the unicorn herd he nourished here, only for the Moon's eye across the Edge. His Edge. Disgusted with equines and the Sun in general he turned to observe the scene of chaos, nearly tripping over Aurelius as he did so. He hadn't noticed the pony moving in to stand beside him, and a look of surprise crossed his face when he noticed him.

"We shall prevail," he said, and Mauja gave him a fond, thankful smile before gazing at the mayhem. A charred circle was all that remained of where the God himself had stood, charred trees flanking it; Korra was stumbling up and spat a thank-you at d'Artagnan, which caused one of the King's 'brows to rise. Korra, saying thank you? That was something he would have to remember for quite some time. The savage mare moved off into the trees and he let her go, knowing that the Doctor would've done his work properly. He looked worn, though, but Seiren and Hellena - fuck, Hellena? - still needed to be treated. He cast about, looking for her fragile form, but it was nowhere to be seen. Untouched, hanging at the edges, was Cineviam; Mauja's eyes landed on him. "Cineviam!" he called out, picking up his aching hooves in a trot towards the sooty stallion, and surprised himself by hoping the pony followed him. It felt good to have someone trailing along behind, someone who was there, silently supporting. "Hellena took off into the forest, but she's wounded; see if you can find her, will you? She might hurt herself if she pushes herself too far..." Genuine worry tinged every word and he drifted off into silence. The draft stallion was part of the Edge herd. If he didn't understand the need to protect his herd mates, especially those who were Moon touched, Mauja would, tense as he was, kick his ass and give him a lecture.

He spun where he stood, hoping to not trip on short Aury again. Seiren remained of the wounded, but he wasn't sure if he could put d'Artagnan through another healing. He started to make his way across to them, pausing briefly to give Seiren's muzzle an encouraging bump, before coming to the Doctor and his Nurse. "d'Art," he greeted him, warmth, relief, playing through his entire body. "Kou." He turned to look at Seiren, and the direction Hellena - and hopefully Cineviam - had taken off. "I sent Cineviam after Hellena, I hope he finds her quickly... You look tired. Don't overwork yourself, but - do you think you could do a little something for your sister? Treat the deepest, take the edge off the pain, and then we can try to put her in a stream or the ocean." He grinned slightly. He had a notion d'Artagnan might enjoy tripping his sister into a stream, and that Seiren would not enjoy it at all, but they had to get her cooled off before the damage became too extensive... He didn't want to lose her. She was precious, intelligent, skilled, mildly frightening. He didn't want to lose anyone.

And the rain turned the ground into black rivulets of sodden ash.
angels, they fell first, but I'm still here
