Large round eyes turned to the figure shuffling through the twilight haze. The beak split in another piercing cry of hunger, but the phantom thing hovering above was quick to satiate.
Bits of fish poured into the endless gullet. The elegant neck of the avian gorged and in the chick's fevered state it began to reach up higher and higher. It stabbed greedily for the food, not wanting small morsels but the whole corpse. Carelessly it struck about until its crop could hold no more and sleep began to cradle the young mind.
With a yawn the hatchling ruffled its feathers, sleepily staring through a heavy lidded eye. Gracelessly flapping its wings it attempted to fly/clamber towards its newly appointed guardian.
The eclipse that had reigned its magic over the land kept them from being able to feel each other as they should, but the bond had sealed in those moments, and the bird felt a draw within its soul to stay with this horse.
