The Innocent






She walked closer to him. He half smiled at her, a little embarrassed that this wasn't working as well as he had planned.

After a sizable time had passed he started to give up. It wasn't a big deal if he couldn't start the fire. She didn't even know what one was so it wasn't a loss to her.

He couldn't get the spark to catch so he pushed the wood away from them. A tad frustrated and extremely tired, he turned to the little spotted filly. Her ruby eyes open wide and looking after Balé expectantly.

Dropping his head, he spoke to her, "No fire for now. Sleep?" It felt kind of awkward and as he said it he realized that. Considering that in almost any situation he would have been awkward anyway, that didn't really matter.

The cave was dark and water dripped from the ceiling to the outer rim. A sort of moat was contained in the stone but it felt nice to not be alone. The company was comforting. He, slowly, folded underneath himself and lay down. Legs folded and head lowered he waited for Nayati to join him. His long cream colored tail curled around his body. In the middle of this cave it was dry. The water was mostly contained to the rim and barely any water reached them.

It was okay for tonight. Sweet Balé couldn't wait to see what tomorrow would bring. If today was any indicator then he would be happy.

He closed his eyes and was content. He was content.
