"It gives me strength to have somebody to fight for;

Apollo was oblivious to the troubled thoughts than ran rampant through the sooty mare’s head, instead attempting to focus on the push and pull of the waves that collided into his muscled body. His ingrown fear was always present, burning behind the forced calm of his honey-brown eyes, but the stallion pushed himself to focus on the pure joy that he felt when it came to spending time with Phaedra. They were two sides of a coin, she and him…

Where Phaedra was confident, he was shy. Where she was flirtatious, he was modest. They were left and right, black and white, but for Apollo, that didn’t matter. Even if nothing came out of their pseudo-relationship or the flirtatious teasing that Phaedra often sent his way, the Unicorn wouldn’t mind in the slightest if they simply remained friends. That was something that he had sorely lacked all of his life, and perhaps Helovia would grant him such a gift. Already, if she agreed, he could see such a marvelous friendship form with Phaedra… But would she let him be that close?

Glancing over his shoulder as he attempted to leap over the waves, - a truly difficult task, due to the chest-high water and pull of the current- the stallion gave a snort, tossed his head back and pointing his crystalline horn towards the sky, let out a bellowing laugh. It was a joyous, carefree sound, a loud whinny that echoed across the beach, and it told everything that he was feeling. It had been so long since he had been this happy, this carefree, without any worries in the world… His soulful eyes met Phaedra’s own, urging her to follow.

It was the beautiful melody that was Phaedra’s voice that caused his winning pace to falter, his ears dipping back slightly to further hear what the Pegasus beauty was saying to him. The crashing of the waves and the blood in his ears is what made it hard to hear, but alas, the overo was capable of comprehending just what she was saying.

’Hey Apollo, what’s that on the shore?’

Not knowing her true intentions, Apollo’s pace slowed and his head whipped around to face the vast expanse of the ivory-sanded shoreline, nostrils flaring wide. What indeed? If it had been enough to catch Phae’s attention, then surely it must be something interesting. As he stared, his steps faltered and pace slowed, until he was standing still, chest-deep, in the water. His ebony mane lay plastered against the nape of his neck, tousled and knotted in places due to their frantic play, but the notion of it became lost on the stallion when he indeed, spotted something on the beach. Or, the somethings.

Wolves. The Unicorn’s eyes widened once he spotted them, nostrils inhaling with a sharp snort, counting them as they prowled the shoreline. Four, five… Six? Yes, there were six of them on the beach, their beady eyes and gray coats shining in the sunlight. It reminded the stallion of when he had made his mad-dash into Helovia, when he had encountered the pack of wolves just outside of the Threshold’s borer. Yet… The wolves on the beach weren’t quite like the pack that he had encountered outside of Helovia. They had given chase immediately, but it almost seemed like this pack was waiting for something.

“Phae… Wolves!” He called, whipping his head back around to face the earthly Pegasus. The moment that his eyes landed upon her, absorbing her wind-tousled body, sooty coat darkened elegantly due to the water, a strange protectiveness built in his chest, causing the ebony unicorn to toss his head. Was he terrified? Yes, of course… But he was more terrified for Phaedra. While Apollo knew that Phaedra could fight and more than likely hold her own, the stallion didn’t want to take a chance. If she opened her wings and took to the skies, then she could escape the threat unarmed, even if it meant leaving him behind. “I can try and distract them… But do you think they’ll come into water? I’ll fight them off, Phae, so you can escape.”

Unlike many stallions, the Unicorn spoke from his heart. He wasn’t trying to show off his ‘strength’ by taking on a pack of six wolves, or impress Phae with his fighting abilities… Honestly, Apollo’s fighting skills were poor, but the last thing that he wanted was for Phaedra to be hurt. For her, he’d fight. For her, he’d kill.

I can never fight for myself, but, for others, I can kill."
