Soleil had not set hoof in the Foothills territory since she and Paladin had relinquished their position of power with the election of the new leaders. Since then she had been roaming around as an outcast as she had done in Isilme after the war that had won the unicorns the Tides back. Back then being an outcast did not bother her, but as she grew older she came to realize the value of having a place to call home. A place that was safe and stable and beneficial for raising foals. In her roaming she had drifted from her lover's side and spent a good deal of her time meditating and trying to find her way. In the end she decided to simply follow her heart and her heart had led her back to the Foothills.

The pale and golden mare stood on the borders of the land gazing in, much as she had done the first time she had come to this land, heavily pregnant with her second set of twins and with Paladin at her side. Now she was alone. Her youngest son had taken after her and was an adventurer and took great joy on exploring Helovia. While she knew the land was not completely safe she would still allow him to explore and learn just as she had done. She would fine him after she secured herself a place in the Foothills herd then her next move would be to find her love and inform him of her decision to return to the home they had left.

"Leaders of the Foothills, I request your presence." Soleil called out across the open field. Her weight shifted and she rested a hind hoof on its tip in relaxed comfort as she waited for one of the leaders or even one of the herd's members to greet her and, hopefully, invite her to live among them.

Though she was not one of those who was requested, the young grulla could not help but approach at the sound of a voice that seemed familiar. She wove through the trees, blending with the shadows unknowingly as she went to investigate. But all attempts, intentional or not, to go unnoticed went up in smoke when she peered out from between two border-side trees. The blaze that marked her face so boldly stood out like a beacon from the shade, helped along by the white frosting in her mane where otherwise she might have gone unseen.

Her ears quirked forward in recognition, though she'd never spoken to the mare in person. "Soleil?" She inquired as she stepped out from the shelter of the trees, though she was fairly certain that she'd gotten the name right. "You've come back." This too was inquisitive, as her ears twitched forward and back.

Already she knew of Paladin being welcomed back into the herd by Jackal, and it has crossed her mind to wonder where the dun's mate was. Now she had an answer, even if it brought more questions.

Soleil's ears tipped forward when a face peered out from between a set of trees. There was a niggling sense of recognition, but it had been a long time since she'd associated with anyone that had been in the Foothills herd when she and Paladin had led it. Looking back she realized she was happy when he suggested that they give up their throne. After her time leading the Moonlit Tides she really did not want to be a leader again. She would have spoken to Paladin and graciously given up her position to another equine had there not been such a huge stink made about it by the herd.

"Kimber!" Soleil said suddenly when she realized who the younger mare was. "Yes, I've returned, I'm not to fond of living the life of an outcast." She looked around as she continued on. "This was the first place I called home in Helovia, if the leads allow me back I would like to call it home once more."

She sighed wistfully before her gaze found the grulla mare again. "You've grown." She said, a smile gracing her pale face. "You're a beautiful young mare."

A pleased expression crossed the young grulla's features as Soleil recognized her, a flutter of pride rising within her that even one who'd barely interacted with her would remember her name. It gave her some satisfaction to be so remembered.

"Its fun to visit the wilds, but better to have somewhere to return to." She observed in quiet agreement, even though Kimber herself had no experience in living as an Outcast. She'd gone from living in the Oasis to being welcomed into the Foothills, and had since remained there. "I'm sure Jackal will welcome you back too." She paused, deliberating, before forging along with her next statement. "Jackal just let Paladin back, and made him Storyteller and Willow the Healer." Why the dun hadn't brought Soleil with him at the time still made Kimber wonder.

But the older mare's next words distracted her from that contemplation. Yes, she had grown. But the concept of being seen as beautiful was somewhat alien to the young mare. She fidgeted, shifting her weight and twitching her tail. She wanted to be seen as strong, worthy. And being beautiful didn't quite compute with that. "Ah, thanks." She murmured, trying to at least be polite about the compliments.

Faint, delicate burble of feminine voices draw him. One is heartwrenchingly familiar, and recalls the youthful face of one much loved - Kimber. A smile breaks the grim of his face, and his graceful rusty limbs brought him towards her at a brisk trot, hooves vibrating against the lush earth, stumbling occasionally on a still weak knee. Dei flies above him lazily, the broad spring sun picking out his scales in browns and golds and greens. Today is bright, and the lilting sonnets the songbirds weave only fuel the excitement thrumming through his body. Voices increase in volume, and his potent haunches slam against the tender grass, sending him into a lope. Nose thrust down and muscles rippling beneath a healthy summer coat, glittering with health, the King of Thieves is no doubt a sight for sore eyes. Pale scars lace his hide like fairy trails, and the dusty skin is dotted by spots, inherited from his warrior mother and her mother and her father. A grin serenades his face as he spots them at the border, where the familiar earthy Foothills smells fraternize and mix with stranger, muskier forest scents. He relents, faltering slightly as the healing pain in his left leg hinders his gait.

Two mares chat before him - his aunt Kimber, of course, and a grey with golden lacing on her back. Nodding toward the colorless mare in greeting, Jackal draws closely beside his ashy aunt, their dun hides, faded rose and dusty grey, brushing together. Dei swoops toward the familiar mare, trilling exhuberantly before settling on his bonded's back, eyeing the newcomer with ample curiosity.
The appaloosa swings his head over the mousy mare's neck, breathing fondly on her frosty mane. "A lovely day to take a walk," he muses, silver eyes swirling with amusement as they watch the pretty stranger; the conversation between the female seems friendly enough - there are not catty glances, only laughter and serene words. "I am Jackal," a smile, soft and reserved, winds its way onto velvet lips. His breath comes swift and hard in a broad chest, lungs winded by his exuberant pace. "If it is a home you wish, you are very welcome to join."
