"Perhaps," he answered her. "But I was honest when I said I have no idea how to get away form here. If I could tell you how to help me, I would, but I simply do not know. But, Vy, you could do me a favor of a different kind. Unless they have moved, my herd lives north of here, upon a vast tundra - you could find them and... Tell them of me, or something. Join them, help protect them in my stead. That is the only thing I can think of now."

She stood there. Dumbfounded for what seemed like a long time. Time passed between them like fog across a meadow. It was smooth, almost unnoticeable. The forest around them swayed and the mist from Vy's breath mingled with their surroundings as it lifted about their heads and intertwined with the branches whose leaves had left them.

Confused, her head tilted, and eyebrows knit together. Wrinkles fabricated on her brow and her ears tilted to the side.

What? This...this doesn't make sense. Even nonsense at times sees the light of day. This, surely, is nonsense. But even if there isn't any reason to this, we are all entitled to our wishes. If his wish is to be alone, why should it not be granted? For there could be more to the story. I shouldn't press. No. Wouldn't want to impose...or be rude. But what if there's something more that he's not telling me? Something I could help him with?

Relunctantly, she replied, "If that is what you would like. She nodded at him and asked a final question, "But can I not try to help you? I'm not scared of what is to come. The future doesn't scare me."

There was nothing more to say. A gap formed between them and separated them. Not only were they in different..worlds? But they were on different pages, in different mindsets. One only hoped to help.

She only wanted to help.
