ice cold man watches earth die, eternal winter takes its reign
There was nothing to do but settle down and wait, something he was fairly used to these days - a lot of the time he had nothing in particular to do, no one to talk to, no children to play with, no political bonds to forge... He'd come to appreciate it, those moments to himself, when he could think about himself and who he was, what he wanted, dream his little dreams where no one could see. When nothing went on he was able to unwind, often standing on the Edge of the World and looking out across the vast, blue expanse, trailing the falling fog with cold, knowing eyes. Now, though, to stand on the Edge was nearly a death sentence in the unrelenting heat of the sun; it burned the water straight out of your body and left you weak. To faint in such a situation was most likely fatal, and so the King had stuck to the forest, slinking between tired trunks and hiding in the deep shadows. Mauja sighed slightly into the silence, wondering if he should allow it to deepen or if he should try to lure the tired Daltoff into conversation - but, perhaps not about his past... It seemed a touchy subject.
Black ink swallowed up the forest floor. Surprised, he let his eyes go up to the sky; a raven cawed and more and more came to sit among the dry branches, blocking out the sun with their myriad of forms. Pale eyes widened a fraction as he stared, listening to their murderous cries and the soft whisper of their black feathers. "What the..." he murmured, glancing briefly to Daltoff to see what he made of it. Then he tilted his head up again, watching them - wondering what they wanted. What they would do. And there was nothing he could do, except wait, and relish the sudden deepening of the shade.  |
