His story must have struck some chord in the fae's mind, and he stands very still as she approaches. It is a slow process - one step at a time - but finally, she lips gently at his chest. It is perhaps the closest that she has stood to him, and he wants nothing more than to earn the right to touch her. He swallows, hard, resisting the urge to nudge her, to press his maw against hers. It is perhaps the most difficult thing he has ever done. Or not done, depending on how you look at it. "I came back..." she began, her voice a whisper. He pricks his ears, stretching his head forward ever so slightly, tilting his head to the side. "... to see my mate and newborn twins... killed by wolves..." His auds pin backward in sympathy, pain visible in his orbs. At least he had not had to watch his kin massacred; for all he knew, they might well be alive. And at least he had Erigor. Resplendence is truly alone, and for a brief moment, he almost understands her constant fear. "My sorrow for yours, my lady," he murmurs, and if there is any doubt in her mind about his feelings, his lyrics hold the anguish he feels for her, the desire to protect her. He hesitates, but ever-so-slowly reaches out, intending to press his velvet-soft muzzle to hers. He is alert for the slightest movement, the smallest hint that she might shy away, for if she does, he will stop, pull back, will not try to give her solace in that way. He is unsure, for the first time in his life, where he stands with a mare. |
