She is beginning to trust, already, the mare with the soft voice. She is very different from the others, who made up for her silence with talking louder and trying to force normality. Instead of doing so, Resplendence was careful and soft, as if understanding what Nayati was going through. The filly didn’t understand that Resplendence probably intimately understood every terror and side effect, and it gave her experience that Nayati didn’t have. Instead of remaining standing, she had curled up on the ground just to make the pale princess feel safer, and for that Nayati was immensely grateful. It was sometimes a matter of pride, getting on her level, but she was thankful that Resplendence didn’t seem to care and waited through the tremors and panic attack just to help her.

Every attack drained her, left her feeling weak and smaller than ever. Ruby eyes watched the coffee female carefully for any sign of anger or movement, but all she received was a small nod of her crown. It was enough to relieve a bit of the tension that had seized up her frail shoulders, and allowed her to extend her forelegs correctly in preparation for standing. Comforting tone was more than enough, even if the words had been complete gibberish to Nayati. ”Scared of the dark?” Nayati’s eyes darted around before returning to the lass, and nodded shakily. She really didn’t know how to lie anyways, and she’d never been a particularly prideful child. Slowly she took in her words, the stillness of the understanding fae that made Nayati want to curl up against her side and remain there in the comfort of her skin forever. At last she nodded, lifting with thin forelegs until the rest of her body followed. Dark scar, the black of her skin and the pink of dead flesh fighting it out for dominance of her coat, was glaringly obvious with the light of the moon cascading down through the leaves. Nayati jumped as the leaves rustled and made a soft noise in her throat, moving unsurely towards Resplendence and tucking close to her side. In her mind if she stayed with the pretty woman, then the demons couldn’t appear and haunt her. ”P-Please don’t leave…” she whimpered, pressing her small white face into a tawny shoulder. ”I-It’s scary…”

the rose shadows said that they loved the sun, but they also loved the dark,
where their roots grew through the lightless mystery of the earth. the roses said: you do not have to choose.
