He had noticed it before, but it was only now that Mesec truly took in the strange contraption wrapped around the taller stallion's face. It was a pristine white and gave off an eerie glow, illuminating it's wearer's face and giving him a frightening appearance. Perhaps Mesec was foolish not to be afraid of his company, though it was the elder's kind words and gentle tone that truly kept him with feet firmly planted on the ground.

Mesec wanted nothing more than to learn more about the stranger, but before he could even fathom a question to ask, the Friesian tossed his head and seemed as though he were trying to fight something off. The colt, unable to help himself, tipped his head to the side in innocent curiosity. Had an insect flown into his eye? Was the thing on his face bothersome? It certainly looked like it was. As quickly as it had happened, though, it stopped, and Mesec found himself looking into the verdant, almost glowing gaze of the ebony giant.

The stallion comes closer, as does his canine companion. She seems on edge still, almost nervous that her master has come closer to him. Mesec was unused to the bonds that were often formed between equine and other animals, for it seemed a rarity in his frozen home. The dog let loose a whine, undoubtedly trying to pull the stallion's attention away from Mesec and back to her; but it all seems to be in vain, for she is ignored and the Friesian's attention remains upon him.

When he is finally given a name to put to the stallion's face, Mesec found the beginnings of a smile tugging at his lips. "Knox," he repeated, if only to engrave it into the depths of his young mind. He would remember it for as long as he was able, for in his short life, Knox was the first to look upon him with kindness in his eerie eyes. Mesec could only hope that it was not childish of him to hope, to pray, that their meeting would some day meld into something more like a friendship, despite the fact that the colt knew little of the term.

Knox speaks then of his mother, to which instantly brings a gratified smile onto the youngster's face. It wasn't often somebody spoke of the lavender mare with such compassion, and the change was more than welcome in the silver eyes of the colt. "She is my mother," he spoke up then, wondering how the other might take to such a revelation, "I bet she'd like you. Maybe you can meet her one day." There is obvious excitement in the hybrid's tone, for the mere thought of seeing his mother again had him giddy. He had seen her far too little since the day she had dumped him at his father's feet in the Basin, leaving him scared and unsure of what was going on. He understood now, of course, but it didn't keep him from wanting to see her.

Again Knox speaks, and finally seems to give his companion some sort of comfort. With a flick of his still short tail, the colt takes a step closer to the pair, glancing cautiously to Manhattan. He didn't want to unsettle the canine any further, and was ready to move back if need be. When he returned his gaze back to Knox, however, a grin was quick to return to his face. "I like it, too, Knox. Can I ask..." He trailed off for a moment, uncertain if the older male would grow annoy with his petty questions. Deciding to chance it, however, he inhaled softly and spoke. "Where are you from? And what's that thing on your face?"

"blah blah blah."
