Gravedigger, when you dig my grave can you make it shallow? So that I can feel the rain..

The brute had triumphed.

For all of Gaucho's victories, he remained a humble fighter, constantly looking only to improve his skills, and learn from his opponents. If they were less experienced than He, then the bay merely took it as a lesson in perfection - for if the odds were so clearly in his favour, ought he not make mistakes? But mistakes were surely made - and his body paid the price.

Under his dark-marked skin, the bruising on his shoulders and rib cage were quite severe. The most obvious of his wounds however, was the fact that the piercing through his nose had almost been pulled completely out. The cartilage of his snout was torn and covered with dried blood, and yet the wound was still painful as if fresh. Although Archibald's magic had worn off, and his bones no longer felt as though they were made of stone, his muscles felt torn and used from the effort of moving his weighted body.

He needed a healer, but had no idea what to do to find one.

Flicking his luxuriously long black tail, the bay entered into his homeland with a grunt, his keen gray-blue eyes trained on the bloody sands. He was exhausted, though would not show it, for fear of showing weakness should there be any enemies lurking. Although he did not see any of his fellow soldiers currently patrolling, he was sure they would not be proud to see one of their own hobble home. With a soft sigh, the massive brute continued to wander, ears perked beneath his antlered brow, wonder how he would find the healer of his herd.

At first, Aryel didn't recognize the stallion that limped across their border. She had spotted him as she patrolled from the air, her now-constant companion Java asleep on her back, as he tended to be during most of the day. Taking the youngster out for his twilight meal of flower nectar and fruit was somewhat taxing, but he was such a sweet bat she didn't mind. Aryel banked to begin her landing, flaring her wings just before she hit the ground to avoid a jarring landing. Her new silver markings gleamed as the sun hit them, contrasting with the blue-black feathers that surrounded them. Aryel turned and began trotting towards the stallion, drawing breath to welcome him to the Throat. A hybrid, she thought. Don't see many of-Wait a minute. "Gaucho?"

Despite the addition of the antlers, it was indeed the taciturn stallion she had sparred with before. Had it not been for the new wingmarks, the feather braided into her mane, and the magic that now hummed through her body she would've been more startled at his new headgear, but right now she was more concerned with the condition he was in. Her expression changed from surprise to concern as she took in the bruising on his body and his torn-up nose. Had he been attacked by a predator? "What happened?" she asked as she neared him. She unconsciously stretched her neck forward to sniff at his nose, wincing at the metallic reek of blood and the peculiar bone shard he had through his nostrils. While nothing looked life-threatening, it was surely very painful, especially his muzzle. Java, awakened by her landing and the smell of blood, clambered up her neck and perched between her head ears to scrutinize the newcomer. At Gaucho's intimidating visage, he squeaked and flattened himself against her mane, but managed to conquer his fear and stretched out his foxlike nose to gather in his scent.

As Aryel approached, even with his tired eyes, he could sense that something about her had changed. Perhaps it was because the last time he saw her, she was drenched by the rain, and only backlit by the stormy skies and yet...Yet given how their bodies had come together and collided so intimately during their spar, he was sure he would have noticed the markings on her wings. Perhaps not the feather which now hung from her mane, but definitely the markings. With a snort, he turned his massive frame to face her, gazing down with his stoic gaze, yet he appeared warmer; softer somehow. What happened? By her tone of voice, Gaucho could tell she was worried, though he couldn't understand why. He was in their homeland, with no threats or invaders within eyesight - why would she be worried? Because of his nose? Bah. Wrapped in his antlers, was a white snake, who before Java had moved, was merely sunning herself. Her black eyes caught the movement, and instinctively she rose up Gaucho's antlers, wrapping herself around the tines until she was as high as she could go. Sticking out her forked tongue, she scented the air, eying the bat with a hungry interest. Her mind, in many ways, was more advanced than her bonded's, and she wondered if he would mind if she ate the bat as a snack.

Gaucho, ignored Mara completely. Although their mental bond had formed, it was still a rather alien presence in his mind, a weight that he wasn't sure how to manage. "Gaucho spar with archeebaaalt" He confessed, imaging the larger draft with a grunt. He had never sparred with an attacker larger than he - much less one with magic! Although Gaucho had found a plethora of useful items on his return, antlers, magic, and Mara, he was still unsure how he had managed to placate the larger stallion. Focusing on Aryle, unable to see the predatory gaze in Mara's black eyes, he wrinkled his nose. "Gaucho need healer."

(Righty-o, Boom.)

Java caught the snake's movement before Aryel did, and shrank back with a frightened squeak. Shooting the mamba a mean look, the young bat turned and clambered down Aryel's neck again to sulk on her withers. At first, feeling his claws up and down her neck and back had been an odd sensation, but now she often took comfort in it. The flying fox was rarely off her back, as had he been raised by another bat he would've spent much of his childhood clinging to his mother's chest. She sometimes left him in their thicket to sleep, but he didn't like being separated for long and would often berate her with an angry squeak when she returned to take him out foraging.

She pricked her ears as Gaucho tried to explain why he was injured. Archebalt didn't ring a bell in her memory, but she reflected he must've been a formidable horse to inflict those bruises and wounds on Gaucho, who wasn't exactly a pony in terms of size (That title was more fitting for Aryel). Well, at least he wasn't in any worse condition. Her flank twinged slightly as she recalled being stabbed by Dakini, the sickening feeling of her horn ripping open her skin and piercing her leg muscles. If it hadn't been for that kind healer who found her limping across the meadow, she might not have made it back home. Aryel snorted as he mentioned needing a healer. "No kidding." she agreed. "There's usually one around, but calling gets their attention quicker." She backed up a few steps, turned, and reared up, neighing loudly to request a healer. She finished the call, then turned back to Gaucho. Something told her that fretting over him wouldn't improve the situation, so she decided to inquire about something that had been nagging at her mind. "So...how'd you get the antlers?" she asked, indicating them with a toss of her head. Perhaps it had been by magical means, the same way she received her fire magic. Eve now, the memory of that flame-scaled dragon crawling out of the Heart still caused a shiver to run down her spine. The fact that some of that dragonfire now flicked her blood was an unsettling fact at times.

As the bat scurried down Aryel's neck, Mara's forked tongue dragged out in the empty air, looking disgruntled and villainous at the same time. Curling her white body back around Gaucho's antlers, she watched the blue mare and the bat with a rapt interest, wondering if she could strike fast enough to snag the bat, should it venture higher up again.

As Aryel reared up, calling for a healer, Gaucho blinked with an appreciative surprise. He had no idea that you needed to call for one...he sort of assumed they would just, show up? The way he seemed to just show up for battle, he believed healer's would just appear near the wounded. Huh. Good thing Aryel was around. His primitive mind wondered if there was more about healing that he was ignorant of...was he supposed to bring an offering? Would he be indebted to the healer? Would it hurt?

As Aryel directed their conversation towards his antlers, he tossed his large head, sending his silky black forelock falling before his eyes. Grinning, the bay snorted. "Gaucho hear drums. Gaucho find antlers" He shrugged, as if to imply that what happened next, was something he couldn't explain. "When Gaucho bleed, antlers do magics. " He continued, his deep voice dropping even lower, full of wonder and awe as he spoke of himself and magic in the same sentence. He nodded steadily to Aryel, as if expecting her not to believe it, but trying to convince her it was true. Backing up a few paces, Gaucho reared into the air, arching his body forward and bring his head low to his chest. With a grunt he tore up, as if cutting some invisible foe with his antlers. As he landed, a child-like glee filled his dark eyes; clearly he enjoyed this gift. "Antlers good for fight." He concluded with a deft nod.

A graceful rise of the head lifts Onni's pale face toward the sun, as her ear cocks off toward the west. "Did you hear that, Lyhty?" she asks, looking toward the little songbird gives a chirp of agreement, lifting off from his spot on the red floor to land upon her shoulder. Moving away from the Oasis lake at a swift canter, the healer responds to the call of distress, though she is a bit skeptical as to what it may be about. With the threat of Tio still hanging over her head, the former warrior might have to inflict damage rather than heal it. In the corners of her heart, a heavy weight shifts as dread settles into her formerly light steps. It was not that the tobiano would not fight for her home; had she a choice, however, the healer would likely opt out of resorting to violence to protect what she held dear.

Sometimes, in life, you had no other option.

Today would not be one of those days, for as Onni gets closer to the origin of the call, she can immediately tell that it is not the cry of war that had rung in her ears, but rather one of injury. The shaman is quick to pick up her gait, settling in on the contrasted pair in a few moments, coming to a steady halt in the desert heat as she looks at the large patient. Onni had seen the bay around the area, but it was her first time seeing the stallion with a large rack of horns. Lyhty chirps nervously on the healer's shoulder as she rustles her wings slightly, shaking her head as she catches the very last bit of the gargantuan's words as he comes propelling back to the ground with his show of his rack's usefulness. Antlers good for fight.

Proffering a smile, the shaman's pale face alights with joy, though her sky eyes are tinged with worry. "Hello, sir," she says with a soft spoken voice. "I am Onni; shaman of this land. Might I examine your wounds?" Not waiting for a reply, the healer steps closer, her muzzle extending closer to the large bays as her eyes focus in on the flap of skin that hangs loosely. She cringes, thinking of the pain that must have come with such a wound.

"You are also favoring one of your legs... a shoulder wound, maybe?" the girl asks, her neck craned around to view his broad shoulder and the disarray of the brown pelt, likely from a set of rather large hooves.

Drums, huh? Well, wild magic did run rampant in some parts of Helovia, and stranger things had happened. When he mentioned magic connected to the antlers, she considered showing him the fire magic she now possessed, but decided against it. No need to brag. Besides, she was still unable to fully control it, and privately worried she might accidentally burn Gaucho. She didn't relish explaining to the healer how that had happened.

As Gaucho reared, she took a few steps back, watching as he stabbed at an invisible enemy, unconsciously admiring the way his shoulder and chest muscles flexed. He was a good horse to have on their side, that was for sure. She chuckled as he came back down and spoke again. "I'll bet." she said. "It's a good thing you didn't have those when we sparred." They didn't look as sharp as most unicorn headgear, then again, most of them had single straight horns instead of large, branching antlers. Still, if slammed into her side or chest at a dead gallop, they would no doubt hurt.

She turned as a new voice broke into their conversation to see the pretty white-faced mare that did most of their herd's healing. With a polite nod, Aryel stepped aside to allow Onni to near her patient, staying quiet so the shaman could focus on Gaucho. Maybe he hadn't been receptive to another soldier fretting over his wounds, but he wouldn't exactly have a choice with Onni. Java, who had gotten over his initial fear from the snake, perked up and looked at the paint mare, then turned his attention to the little finch that perched on her. He couldn't wait til he was big enough to fly. But so far, every bighooves with wings that he had met had feathers, not webbing. What if that meant he couldn't fly? While still an infant, he did have some control over his emotions and was able to keep the worry from showing, although Aryel still felt it faintly through their growing bond and looked back at him with concern.

Shaman was definitely a complicated word that Gaucho needed no help in understanding. He regarded Shaman' with the utmost respect, closely mirroring the reverence he felt for his Sultana, Kri. Their knowledge of the inner-workings of the world, while too complex for Gaucho, was still something he could appreciate and strive to understand. As the white-face mare neared, Gaucho flared his nostrils, which caused a dull pain to etch through his nose, yet he ignored it, wanting to take advantage of the opportunity to memorize the Shaman's scent. "On-nnnneeee" Gaucho mimicked in a low tone, seeming to open his mouth wide almost like he was trying to wrap his lips around the first syllable.

As she moved closer, the bay lowered his large skull closer, to make it easier on the mare who stood several inches shorter than he. Any pretence of disliking being touched, or fawned over seemed to disappear, and he became supple and willing in her gaze. As she inquired about his shoulder, he shrugged willingly enough, moving his right shoulder slightly closer to her. In truth, his entire body ached. While the warm rays that enveloped the Throat helped to ease his muscles, they still tensed up regardless of how often he stretched and lumbered around the Throat.

As Aryel referenced his antlers and their previous spar, Gaucho smirked in her direction, a sheepish shit-eating-grin spreading across his dark muzzle. He bobbed his head, grunting. "Gaucho no hurt Aryel." He said with an uncomplicated genuineness.

She was reminded of a large dog.

He tried to mimic the motions of her mouth and reproduce her name, but his gruff voice is not fluent in its gestures. The mare rests an easy smile of encouragement on her face as the last syllable of her name is drawn out in effort. "What is your name?" She asks quietly, before moving in to observe his wounds closely. He moves his head down to her level obediently, as if hearing her title was all he needed for trust to build between them. The healer is glad, for she most definitely would not want to have to struggle to view his muzzle. The tall figure towered over her own, and she is understanding for the first time how her mother must feel when speaking to most.

Extending a gentle muzzle, Onni tries to feel out the extent of the bruising on the shoulder, without causing much discomfort for the larger brute. His rumbling voice catches her off guard as she does so, pale eyes flicking up to see them planted on the small blue mare, Aryel. The shaman steps back, ear cocked as her eyes grow distant, trying to think of how to best go about this. She had nothing to heal the wound of his nose, for it was nearly severed in entirety. His shoulder did not seem to be of an immediate threat, though by his stance he seemed uncomfortable in general. The healer begins to hum a pleasant tune, closing her eyes as Lyhty begins to sing along, his voice lulling to the company to keep them calm.

A ray of light from the sun beams brighter, falling upon her face for a brilliant moment before the light unfolds around her body, the shaman's tune growing distant as the light bursts into white flames which do not affect her figure. She opens her eyes, looking toward the antlered stallion with a warm smile, before the flames begin to drift over toward him, slowly beginning to envelop his body. They burn, yet it is not a painful sensation. Warmth radiates from the flames, but no burns. Little threads of light begin to stitch the soft tissue of his nose together, as the aches of his body are burned away by the heat of the sunfire. The mare lets out a long breath, and the fires which surrounded the large brute fade, disappearing from his body first and hers second, climbing back up to the sky and the large gleaming sun above their heads.

The tissue around Gaucho's bone would be soft and tender, but much better than the flap which looked like it would fall off at any moment. Hopefully, the rigidity of his muscles and joints would disappear as well, leaving him sprite of body and content. "Did I miss anything?" she asks timidly, worried eyes glancing up at the large face of the stallion.
