More came.
And more.

It seemed only a moment, a blink of her eye, and the small child was surrounded by those most unfamiliar. Horns and wings made no difference to her - they were all equally strange. Odd, that she should find such appendages so unusual, had she not seen such things before? Yet for all that she wracked her mind to try and recall, there seemed to be no memories before this day, before the moment when she had first opened her eyes to the soft voice in her mind. It spoke up again, soothing amidst the angry words and harsh glances that were doled to the first stallion, whom she had believed to be nothing but kind.

These will be your new family, the voice murmured, they will take care of you, dear one.

In response she pressed her tiny body against the tree trunk, a silent protest to the voice that urged her to leave. The forest felt safe to her, familiar even, and she was hesitant to leave the leafy protection that it offered. It was only when a question was posed to her that she seemed to take notice, blinking up at the horned mare that asked it. Her name? Well, now that was a question, wasn’t it? Eldrinn was about to answer that she simply did not know, when a name was provided for her. Eldrinn. Ely, for short.

She giggled and peered up at the stranger, feeling suddenly less afraid. “They say my name is Eldrinn, but that you can call me Ely, if you want.” So strange how she spoke with such mastery of language, such familiarity with her words despite how young she truly was. Or how young she appeared to be.

Eventually her attention was pulled away from the mare and towards the other small creature, the filly that seemed not much younger than herself. Eldrinn could practically see the excitement rolling off of her in waves, and it elicited another soft giggle from the velvety lips of the child. With disregard for all else that was happening around her she broke away from the rough bark and stepped ever so daintily forward. A reassuring and encouraging murmur from the voice was all she heard, oblivious to the arguments and defences happening between the adults. Frankly, she found it quite boring, and was quite unaware that it was her own future they argued over.

“Do you want to play?” The question was for the filly alone, and it was accompanied by a brilliant sparkle in the ivy eyes of the wood nymph. “They said I’m supposed to go with you.” Well, they hadn’t said the child specifically, but Eldrinn assumed that she was very much a part of this gathered bunch, and that by going with her she would be, in essence, going with them. With bright eyes she waited for an answer, not even sure if their original offer still stood.

from dust, she returned
the dream, an enigma... silent
