A rustle, a rocking, and a crack; those were the sounds of new life coming into the world.

In a lonely grove of the Edge, Xanthos had placed an egg for safekeeping, one that he'd found at the beginning of Tallsun. At first, he had feared the creature living inside dead and had almost left it where it lay, but in the end, he had toted it back home. The trek from the Thistle Meadow to his new homeland wasn't far, but with something as delicate as an egg that he was unable to pick up, it had taken at least three times as long.

But now, it seemed that all of his hard work had paid off. While he was no bird, he had laid close to the egg on chilly nights, hopeful that some day, something would come from within it. Today, it was finally happening, and Xanthos was relieved that he was there to watch over the hatching. He knew nothing of what had called the egg home for all this time, but soon, he would find out.

The egg only became more and more active, the creature inside struggling to break free. Eventually, a tiny, golden paw emerged, breaking free and ripping down the walls of its protective home. With a good portion of the egg broken away, it suddenly seemed to pause, as if surveying the new world outside, unsure if it truly wanted to leave just yet. Another moment, and it continued, and finally broke free of the egg entirely.

It was a cheetah, spots all across his body, with three distinct lines running down his back. A King Cheetah.

Xanthos, ever so gently dropped his head to the youngster, a welcoming gesture. He was sure that his great size was intimidating to the feline, but strangely enough, the spotted did not run. "Welcome to the world, Azel," came the grullo's gentle vocie, earning a rather pitiful chirp from Azel as he bumped his fuzzy head into a velveteen muzzle.

Sensitive to the happenings of the realm, a dragon stirred. The telepathic abilities of the little golden queen were monumental, it was not uncommon for others in the herd to feel a certain brush against their minds, a tickling of souls, a caress of a lover's careful hands upon one's heart, as the queen would extend her thoughts across the lands to check upon the wellbeing of the herd. Some were insensitive to it, of course, but many did feel it, and accepted it as part of the curious, mystical wonder that it is to live in a land favoured by the light of the moon.

Mirage was the only one who was truly embraced by the queen's stunning, golden soul, however, only she was able to feel each and every whim, each stirring thought, emotion, colour, each fleeting idea or hurt that the little queen felt. She was honoured to be bound to such a magnificent creature, a soul who had, without a doubt, enabled her to become what she was today. The bond that formed between a soul of the equine genome, be it equine, unicorn, pegasus or otherwise, and another creature, was magical in its essence, but more than that, it was life-changing.

So when the mare came across the grulla unicorn and a small bundle of spotted fur, she smiled, warm and true. Akaith, who was hovering above her, landed with elegant grace upon her bonded's back, warbling welcoming tunes to the newborn. Dragons in themselves were always jubilant at the births of new kin, and it pleased the WeyrLeader and her bonded especially to know that Xanthos had earned himself one. Reaching out in hopes to brush him with her soft, velvet smooth muzzle, the mare wuffled a low congratulations to her Wraith.

"Welcome indeed." She said, her voice warm and comforting, wrapping around them like a thick, soothing blanket. She recalled the first moments of feeling Akaith, the hunger, the uncontrollable, ravenous hunger, along with a great many other seemingly random, but very important observations, as her perspective upon the world was shifted into one that had aerial vision, and breath that constantly tasted of smoke and fire.. It was startling, at first, to say the least.

But she would not have it any other way.

[ No need to keep replying, just wanted to be able to say Mirage saw Azel <3 ]
