ONLY A WARRIOR knows
the true meaning of war

A cold and foreboding mist had descended on the forest as Baldur had entered the palace of dark trees. It hung in the air like a gargantuan spectre, blurring the surroundings to a grey smudge. It's constant swirling put the large stallion on edge, whose gaze was repeatedly drawn by the illusions it cast. The sunlight that had bathed the Threshold to the north as he passed through was gone now, replaced by pale moonlight.

The Foothills stallion did not have a particular reason to be here at this moment in time. He had not been in Helovia for all that long, and had not seen all that much of the land. This had caused him to develop an urge to explore, and that urge had led him to the Deep Forest. Although right now he kind of wished he hadn't. Those less brave than him would probably have left by now, but not Baldur.

He continued forward for a period, shivering at times from the cold and the unwelcoming atmosphere. After a while, a huge fir tree emerged from the body of the ghostly mist and with it a pool of red. Baldur stiffened slightly when he noticed it, thinking it was thick with blood. It came as a relief to find it was in fact lined with crimson coloured crystals.

Approaching it with some trepidation anyway, the stallion stopped at the water's edge and peered in curiously. How strange for such a thing to be in the middle of a forest, he thought, but realised that it was in fact quite fitting. Like a huge single eye glaring out at him from the middle of this monstrous phantom.

Pulled from his thoughts suddenly, the giant's head snapped up, ears pointed up. This time he was sure he heard the footsteps of another. Or had he? It just could have been another trick of the forest after all...

LOKI

Green eyes appeared behind the murky pool of mist enveloping the sweet land of the dark forest. They filled with the vision before him, of a tiny tan stallion, multi-colored hair moving to and fro as he looked around for the black freisian. He laughed, a cold and dry one. He wasn’t in the mood for being nice today, and his wanted to play games. He gave a cool smile, and flapped his large golden wings to clear the mist. It swirled around him and away, dissolving in under five seconds.

The ebony was around for the day in the marsh for no reason either; simply chilling in a place he had become familiar with. He was bored, and took his time making his way to where the little toy solider was. He looked at him, giving him a stare, nothing more for the moment. He was an interesting little being from the outside, but let’s see how he was on the inside. Maybe he would provide the entertainment the Trickster needed, for it had been long since he had had some true fun.

“Hello little one. Come here often? Tell me, what brings you out here all alone, in the middle of the haunted and forsaken Deep Forest? Surely a runt such as you could be spending his time better, instead of just wandering aimlessly.” He snickered. Oh how he loved starting drama and picking on the weak. It was always so entertaining, and he was sure this one would have a fiery heart. Oh yes, this would be fun indeed.

"You're a talented liar, brother. Always have been."
