Standing on four legs. It was about all Ares felt he could do right now. His life had never been what you would call normal, nor was it especially note worthy, the world around him never seemed to stop. At first he was one of two identical hearts, Eris had grown alongside him and together they had followed in their mother's footsteps, not knowing their father but more interested in their next adventure. A few months later he had lost his sister and found himself on his own until Illynx salvaged him from the claiming grounds, bringing him to the cold mountains of the Aurora Basin. Not long after he was in turmoil again as the world was plummeted into darkness. The land did not seem to breathe and normality was left rotting in his early days of foal hood. This new life before him that the precious splashed mare had presented seemed bleak, it wasn't what he envisioned, but at the same time he felt a loyalty to her. Though they were still almost strangers, she had been the only one to reach out from the unknown and take him in. His hair disheveled, disconnected from his magic and cold, his normal body temperature worked at a higher heat than most. However, with his magic gone so was his inner central heating, his partial deafness not helping either.

It was all rather depressing and the young boy tried his best to see a better light. There were many questions he wanted to know, the main one being the identity of his father and the whereabouts of his siblings and mother. They all alluded him. He tried his best to see out into the darkness, knowing he had located himself somewhere near a rather large block of ice and was now stood still after the frightening trek down the mountain. He had hoped that somewhere there would be sun, somewhere he could find light, but only small areas were lit and the more he had walked the more his mood reflected his surroundings.

Leonine tail slapped the air in a curt flick of annoyance as he came to the conclusion he was indeed lost in himself. He didn't know what to do, where to turn or what was right. It was one of those desperate moments where pleading eyes searched for a desperate answer, where frustration got the better of him and all he wanted to do was fall into the cold snow and be left there to wail in his misery. "Mother! I don't know what to do anymore." He cried.

hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die,
then life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly.
She knew of the night to carry deep secrets that couldn't ever be understood. One she was common to notice happen to be the voices, ones that just carried themselves on the untouched snow and moved to her home in the Arch. Her eyes were wide open, ears pricked upwards and alert for the voices tonight. Some tonights they appeared, others they didn't. Child sleeping beside her, she carries sight to the filly, whose chest rises and falls in a calm motion. The stray thought as of if her child ever hears them, or if this is her just going crazy. Her lead wasn't around to speak to her over it, and in the desperate times, she quickly stepped up to lead to make sure things went well.
Inside the cave, her own sounds bounce off the indigo walls and resurrect back to her. The snow and night have yet to please her with a voice, and during her moments of wait, her eyes grow heavy, and sleep seems a welcoming action. When her eyes come to a close, it is when the voice comes.
Mother? You lost voice, you're an idiot. No mother wants you. It comes to her in fast pace, heavy and weakening at the same time. It is near, she is sure of it. Curiousity becomes a weapon at her, and the black flame in her chest calls for her to go out and investigate. 'This is an once in a lifetime sort of thing' it tells her. She falls prey to it, becomes the cat Curiousity always kills, and prepares to stand.
The child does not awaken when it's mother stands, shakes herself, and moves out to the mouth of the cave. Snow refuses to fall, becoming as stubborn as a young child. Lack of wind brings her no more of the voice, but she knows exactly the spot. It is out there, and she is going to find the owner.
One step turns to two steps, two steps to three steps, and before she is aware of her barrings, finds herself in the open. Snow rises half-way up to her knees, and in the cold she shakes. Mirages play tricks to her pale blue eyes, placing a distant figure in the distance. Panic may of taken over her at the moment, thinking it could be her daughter in the snow, yet she soothes herself with the reminder that her child is sleeping, unaware of her mother's departure. Pace turns to a canter, pushing and shoving snow out of her path. In the better light that isn't existing, there is actually a figure in the snow. Too big to be her child, but too small to be full grown. A young colt.
The colt is indifferent to any other Unicorn she has discovered, and as she comes upon him, stares with ungrateful eyes. One invisible eyebrow raised, and she stared upon him with hateful. Cruel words are going to be served to him like a three course meal. "Give it up. No one ever knows what to do and we all want to cry Mommy at one point. Yet, I might be mistaken, have you grown your pair yet, or are you lacking them while crying for Mommy?" She laughs at her own insult, accomplished making her feel a bit better. The colt would learn, or maybe his mother would finally show up and make him into the stallion he needed to be.
