Cassiopeia

The cobalt maiden peered down toward the pool of water at her hooves, studying her reflection that manifested almost flawlessly atop its sleek surface. She stood statuesque, cyan irises shut away as a gentle breeze tugged lightly at the lengthy tendrils of her mane. She relished the cool sensation that constituted upon her skin, as the roan mare lowered her maw to the mirror-like surface. She did not imbibe the fluid; instead, she slowly scanned her muzzle across the surface, the stiff hairs that adorned her chin bowing as they glided smoothly across it. Her long forelock cascaded alluringly down her slender face, the tips of her hair follicles occasionally caressing the water and causing many modest ripples to appear upon the surface.

What was she doing here? There was only one horse she could possibly yearn to see in this place, and of course that was Azzuen. Was she crazy to believe he might end up here as well? A sigh came rushing from from her trembling nostrils, a million tiny ripples waving across the water as a result of the sudden burst of air. Hoisting her head back into the air, she looked about her surroundings on the off chance he might miraculously arrive here. There was nothing but the dissonance of crickets strumming persistently upon their tuneless violins, as the radiant moon hung from the twinkling stars. Its illumination trickled down from the navy blue sky, leaching color from everything it touched. It cast a silver veil across the landscape, causing many of the trees that encompassed the lake to become fluoresced blue-white in the moonlight. It was quite a romantic environment if Cassiopeia could say so herself.

Disappointed she was remained in solitude, though not surprised, she lifted her right foreleg, muscles pulling taut beneath her skin as she promoted her svelte figure to advance forward. Her hoof came down with a clunk into the lake, swiftly followed by her other fore hoof. She continued deeper into the water, until it barely stroked the underpart of her barrel. The water was somewhat cold, though it was not unbearably so. Even in this late hour, fatigue did not grip her; instead, a new found vigor coursed through her veins. Since birth, she had always felt more exalted during nighttime, the cause being the fact she possessed the ability to harness energy from the moon's light. She had acquired her magic genetically - though her mother was not magical, her father was.

She remained submerged in the water, admiring the scenery and thankful that spring had come to warm the land at last. If only she had someone to enjoy the night with.

The habit of following the mare around was a comfortable routine that both parties had seemed to accept without much fuss or worry. Though they were somewhat new acquaintances, the connection and pull Azzuen felt towards Cassiopeia was undeniable. Happily he gave in to the constant want to remain close to the maiden, he had declared to be her protector but he also wanted to be her friend and confidant. He trusted her very much, she had proven to be an honest mare who shared similar thoughts to him about life in general. He was comfortable in her company, so comfortable in fact, that he longed to have her fly by his side all the time. But did she feel the same way?

What on earth was it he was feeling anyway?

When he thought of her a warmth from within bubbled up, bringing forth a smile to his handsome façade no matter what it was he might have been thinking beforehand. He yearned for her delightful company most of the time, and simply standing by her in silence was enough to sate this yearning. He wanted nothing more than to secure her safety and happiness – in short, he was quite devoted to her. He fought the battle that the pegasi waged not just for himself and his kind, but largely for her. She was always at the forefront of his cranium, and should he ever suspect her safety to be in question, he would not hesitate to throw himself in any situation to get it back.

Damnit, I think I’m in love.

The thought slapped him like a bucket of icy water. It wasn’t that he hated the idea of love, but rather that he thought himself incapable of allowing another soul in like that. He, being an honest steed, was unable to deny such things any longer, and he was surprised to find himself quite comfortable with the idea of loving Cass. But of course, there was the issue of not knowing if she felt the same way. Their friendship was growing close, neither of them could refute that, but did she only associate him as just what he had claimed to be – her protector? Oh, how he so wanted to be more than that now! How do I.. tell her? Risking having it all thrown back at him was almost as tortuous as physical combat.

Suppose they weren’t kidding when Mum and Dad said love is a battlefield…

A dark shadow traversed the lands, as the stallion used the Moon’s light to guide him towards the mare’s scent. Even without enhancing his smells he could follow her trail easily – it was stronger, more musky than normal. Being a stallion, of course he knew what it meant. Beating his wings he accelerated his pace, not for wanting to complete the task himself, but rather to protect her from any would-be rapists who might think to take advantage of her. He hesitated a mere moment, wondering if maybe she would be spending a night such as this willingly with another stallion – but no other scents tickled his nostrils, and so he flew on, hopeful and worried at the same time.

The lake that stretched beneath him reflected the dark mass that was his underbelly, he could see her now, and saw with relief that she was indeed alone and safe. Slowing his wingbeats, he allowed a hoof to drop and skim the surface, a line of water spraying up behind him. Sending a low baritone across the waters to her, he arched his nape as he came in to land in the shallows, carefully picking his way through the water and sand to find secure footing. Walking through the waters to be near her, he stretched his muzzle towards her, resisting the temptation to simply embrace her and spill out the inner workings of his heart. He was so nervous, his entire muscular frame was quivering.

“Cass…” His deep, warm voice uttered affectionately. Of course, he knew the implications of her being here, and his arriving here – but was that what she wanted? Oh, to be so unsure of himself truly was the most tortuous thing! He simply didn’t know how to put his thoughts to words, and hoped that she would enlighten him as to her intentions. However, unable to ignore the pull any longer, he stepped closer again, and blew his breath softly against her neck, before nibbling gently at her mane, and rubbing the velvet edges of his maw against her, breathing her in.

The weather went unnoticed by the stallion, for who could pay any heed to one’s surrounds when the most perfect creature was before him?

She stood mutely, motionless as she peered up toward the stars, identifying the dove, Columba among the twinkling masses. Oh how it reminded her of him, and their most recent meeting at the Endless Blue. She was rather skeptical he would arrive, but then again he had managed to find her then, and perhaps that meant there was a chance he would find her again, here. A few moments slunk by as she remained in solitude. She was caught off guard when his deep baritone pierced the silence. Her heart skipped a beat, wings held at half mast in excitement. Her lobed ears perked forward as she arched her head abruptly to the side to locate his dark form, eyes searching frantically through the darkness before falling upon his ebony physique, his sleek coat glistening in the moonlit.

He seemed more handsome than usual... or was it just her hormones? Whatever it was, she simply could not deny that she was head over hooves in love with the striking stallion that stood before her. Did he feel the same way? Surely he did, seeing as he followed her here - to this place of romance. It felt as though she was weightless; he had found her, as she had desired. Her heart was racing. Thoughts ran rampant through her cranium as he gradually made his way closer to her. She parted her kissers to speak, but, she was speechless. What the hell was going on with her?

He outstretched his muzzle toward her, and she did as well, velvety maw making contact with his own. His masculine voice poured out into the atmosphere, making the hairs on her back stand up. The way he spoke her name made her want to squeal. She was anxious, and it was evident he was as well. She met him halfway, moving slowly through the water until they were neck and neck. She closed her eyes as his warm breath poured down her neck, leaning slightly into him as she did the same. His fragrance danced within her trembling nostrils as she inhaled. It was slightly more raunchy than it had been before, she noticed; or was it all in her head? She began to caress his neck, rubbing her head against his nape as he nibbled her mane, savoring the closeness.

She was yearning to say it: those three little words, but something forced her to hold it within herself; to fight off the urge. She wanted to blurt it out, and let him know how she really felt about him. "Azzuen, I've never felt this way before." No. That wasn't good enough. "I love you." She averred, feminine voice masked with assurance, yet genuinely earnest. She thought she would have felt relief to get it off her chest. Instead, she felt exposed, unsure of whether he could say the same - that he actually loved her. Hopefully he partook in her passion, and she wasn't making a fool out of herself. No other words fell from her lips. She had said enough, she decided, though she was anxious to hear how he responded to this affirmation. Every moment that slunk by felt like an eternity.

Was she really in love, or would she end up regretting this? No. She shouldn't think such things. Azzuen had done nothing to give her any reason not to trust him. Surely he would treat her heart with care, as she would do with his if he allowed her to. It was moments like these that Cassiopeia wished she knew what kind thoughts were going through his head, but then again that would take the fun out of guessing. The best things in life are the ones worth taking chances on. It's what makes life worth living. Afterall, life isn't measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away, and this was certainly one of them.

The enthusiastic greeting that returned him gave the stallion’s heart hope. More than that, she pressed herself against him he thought his thundering heart would take flight straight out of his chest. Just being this close to her was enough for the stallion to lose track of himself, and simply get lost amongst her beauty. Pheromones were powerful things, but the stallion had come to terms with his feelings before they had even tickled his nostrils. What was between them ran a lot deeper than simple chemical reactions, theirs was one of souls and heartstrings entwining. The stallion blinked, glancing to the skies as his crown rested upon her withers, looking at the constellations he knew she could orchestrate. She was a wonder to him, a mystery he knew he was only just beginning to understand, and he yearned to understand more.

The melodic sound of her voice interrupted his thoughts, and he paid full attention to her, pulling out from their embrace and allowing his indigo eyes to settle upon her perfectly chiselled tiara. When she spoke, he thought his heart was actually growing wings and floating away of its own accord. His expression was stunned surprise at first, a blank façade, before he quickly recovered and a broad, warm and affectionate smile curved his lips, a tender laugh quietly rumbling from his chest. Running his muzzle down the nape of her neck once more, he breathed her in, drinking her for all she was worth. “My heart beats only for you, Cassiopeia.” He reassured her, the relief of having everything out in the open washing over both of them. Nibbling on the area of her withers where her mane thinned out and eventually ended, Azzuen wanted nothing more than for this moment to last the rest of his life.

Azzuen:
Gender: Stallion
Species: Pegasus
Breed: Mutt – think mustang or medium-light waler sort of build
Height: 15.1hh
Color: Black
Markings: White stripes up his first primary feathers, tribal markings above his eyes, on his chest, and on top of his wings
Health: Generally very good
Other:
He has ginormously huge wings
He is able to change the colour of his eyes at will, but they also fluctuate with his general mood.
Magic: Electric Light x Wind hybrid magic.
Born with an electric hybrid magic which permits him to repel others around him by changing the polarity of their natural electric charge. If he feels under pressure or otherwise threatened this ability switches on without warning and very little control, pushing all living things nearby away from him, or they are anchored to the spot, himself away from them. It is limited in that the effect will last a minute, often less, and seems to need a day to recharge fully. If he feels un threat more than once a day, the first effect will be the strongest, whilst any following before it has had time to 'recharge', will still be felt, but substantially less so.

Electric Light x Wind hybrid magic.
He can also disable/enchance portions of his own, or another's body by affecting the electric current that sends the signal from the brain to the functioning muscle/tissue. With this ability, and the intensive practise he puts himself through, he is well able to enhance his hearing or eyesight, or numb a painful injury for a time. He uses this to his advantage against foes of course, dulling someone's vision, or intensifying someone's pain, it quite a useful weapon.

Request: I have one request, though it’s quite a huge request. For the coat of the foal, I’d love for it to mimic whatever the weather in the sky is currently doing. For example, sunny clear day = sky blue coat. Cloudy day = sky blue with patches of white cloud-like markings moving across the coat. Stormy skies = dark indigo coat with dark gray/black patches of cloud-like markings. At night the coat would settle for just being indigo. Gender and other such things are fine to be left to the roll of the die ^^

The appearance of the weather patterns are optional, but may also occur unwillingly in her overemotional states.
