It was nightfall and the only sound was cleft hooves against the narrow basin entrance, a quiet noise of a Soldier making his way out onto the wastes. He had factored the Steppe into part of his patrol, he didn't travel as far as the Arch, but kept a keen eye on their close borders. Many travelled in the white wastes and not all of them friendly. He could also keep an eye on the Basin from here, an escaping prisoner would be quite easy to spot from his vantage point and his action would be swift. All in all, Descaro quite liked his cold herdland and it's wide open spaces. He stretched his gait into a marching trot until finally he stood upon seas of white and a freezing wind picked up his mane, blowing it back like a banner. All seemed quiet in the world. He took up a sentry duty then and rested one of his back hooves, dozing in the moons gaze whilst ears swivelled to catch any noise.

In a way Descaro liked his job, it sent him often to remote places and the role seemed to hold an attraction to mares. Like he was some dashing dare devil that they couldn't resist. He smiled then at his own arrogance, but one could not deny the truth after all could they? There was also the fights that came with it and the opportunity to rise higher amongst the ranks. Descaro thrived on the goals and the travelling. His muscles rippled in strength that had built up over seasons of practise and his neck curved proudly as he stood.

The Soldier's thoughts wondered then drifted back to the Plague. The principle of recruiting seemed simple enough, but the more he thought about it the more harder it seemed. How could one trust another with such a dark secret? It was proven that even one we thought loyal, the lover boy Valentine, could not even be trusted. He groaned inwardly, nothing ever seemed easy these days. The other herd lands must of heard about them by now, no doubt the mouth of the traitor had tattled quite quickly before Sno had managed to take him captive. It was even more of a reason to keep an eye out on patrol, if they were stupid enough the bring the fight to them Descaro wanted to see where they were coming from and with how many. He shrugged it off for now and returned to dozing, the milk was spilt and all he could do was wait and watch.

The Scourge
And it is, I, Zdravilo.

Every moment that the snow pressed against her hooves, every time a snowflake dared it's way onto her two-toned coat, she grew to love she snow. The mere principles of frozen areas were shocking, then add on a few shrubs, mountains, horses, and the never ending pallor of winter, it was quite confusing, but eventually she'd get used to it.

So it came, the moment of patrolling with Descaro. She so easily spotted his dark color. She'd become familiar with the color of dark bay, and a snip. Descaro was handsome in every way, but Zdravilo had no interest. Of course, every mare could see his rippling muscles with every stride, his primal, yet elegant stance, and such a pretty horn. Yet, Zdravilo knew to well he was either taken or taking weird things to get to fucking strong, and attractive. She blew away the feeling like a dandelion.

A little smirk smudged onto her face like black ink. It wasn't leaving any time soon. Coming up on his right side, he seemed to distracted to notice. Her body pointed straight at his flank, but she was a little ways away. She'd easily be able to cover the distant in a mere canter, but it was risky doing so. One being, what if it wasn't Descaro? Two being, what is she tripped and fell into the snow?

After, but a moment, she caught up to him. She stopped moving when she was about three feet away from his right flank. She turned her body slightly to line up with his. Once parallel (Or almost so), she spoke. "Descaro." Her smirk still firmly planted as she dipped her feminine cranium, letting her crown tilt forward slightly. Her mane dropping mostly onto one side, but the occasional section on the other side. Her mane seemed frostier than ever, and nearly lacked any strands of golden chestnut. Her two toned eyes keep fixed on him as her head reaches to it's former position. Her chestnut audits flicked forward. "So... watcha' doing?" Reaching her muzzle forward she offered a more relaxed greeting. She didn't know if he'd continue the greeting or leave her hanging. She dearly hoped she hadn't interrupted his work too bad... well, at all, actually.

"blah blah blah."

It was the crunching sound of hooves against snow that first brought his attention to her, dark lobes laced back and a dark eye snapped sharply with his stance tensing. Her familiar scent was all that stopped him from whirling around and confronting the stranger who had approached him. Yet, she was no stranger at all. No, her name was Zdravilo and a new recruit to the basin. Her coat barely mistakable in it's bright alabaster with golden patches like melted butter. She was an interesting company, he hadn't quite figured her out yet nor could he decide whether she proffered living with her own kind or whether the fact didn't really bother her. Maybe tonight he would find out, just a little bit more about the workings of her mind. He watched her draw up alongside him, appreciating her physical presence and happy for her company. It could be lonely out of guard duty and he wasn't about to turn down the enjoyment of a pretty mare.

The Soldier turned his head back to the horizon and continued scanning it, though one eye still lingered on her bodice. Watching her every move and resisting a shudder of delight when she spoke his name and dipped her head, creamy mane falling in beautiful folds. He smiled briefly and nodded once "Zdravilo" he said simply in a returning welcome before watching her ears flicker and catching her next question. "Guard duty. There are some who travel in the Steppe and I wouldn't want them getting too close to the Basin. I fought a mare up here once..." He trailed off in thought of the femme who was like a shadow against the night. The mahogany stud was not beaten by her, but he did regret not learning her name. It would've been nice to put a name to a face.

He shifted his back hooves and began to rest the other whilst he thought of a way to begin a conversation. Or how he could go about asking about her preference to live with their own kind. He didn't want to offend her, but his curiosity was beginning to get the better of him and so he carefully approached the subject. His voice smooth and suave with every word "this may seem a little out of the blue, but, what do you think about us? The unicorns? Do you prefer living with just your own kind?" He kept his tones light, a gentle prodding of much needed information and he quickly fell silent after. Not wanting to ask too much at once. His mind continued on, however, and he couldn't help but wonder if he could sway her into the plague's way of thinking. They needed more members and in the end, maybe teaching others that favouring one race was not a bad idea.

There were a lot of stories he could tell after all, that might just sway her mind.

Z d r a v i l o

Just as she had greeted him, he greeted her. He spoke her name fluidly, and she had to admit, not many could. They always stuttered, or just couldn't pronounce it. It was fairly simple if you thought about it. Druvihlow was easy to pronounce, no? Often, Zdravilo pondered if the 'Z' is suppose to be pronounced, but then realizes that it'd be harder to pronounce. She also wondered if she should change her name. A Medic should not have a name one cannot says easily.

"Oh, Guard Duty. Am I bothering on you during your work?" She said slightly more respectful as her weight shifted slightly on her haunches. Evening out the weight, she took a step backwards. Obviously he was strong if he fought off intruders. "There are some who travel in the Steppe and I wouldn't want them getting too close to the Basin. I fought a mare up here once..." What he said intrigued her much. So much so that it drew her back in, much like a magnet. She eliminated her cowardly back-step by stepping forward, not once, but twice. Now they stand about a foot and a half from each other.

"this may seem a little out of the blue, but, what do you think about us? The unicorns? Do you prefer living with just your own kind?" Her gaze shifted slowly to the ground as she thought for a moment. After a moment, she reconnected their eye contact, and spoke. "I do enjoy turning around knowing bird horses nor equines would not be their being clingy and all. Pegasus are dull, but doesn't that make everything more fun? They are easy to scare and even easier to be dominant over..." She spoke trailing off. She asked him with true honesty, however, she didn't know if he'd answer with equal honesty. "Would you rather rank supreme over equine or pegasus?" Any horse in their right mind would choose pegasus. Pegasus flew and were great in battle. Equines are special in no ways. Yet, somehow she knew Descaro would realize she trailed away from his actual question. His question still hung in the air, and Zdravilo had no answer.

He laughed gently at her enquiry, he had not met many who held respect for him, a simple Soldier. It wasn't like he was high ranked or anything, maybe he got too lost in the whole hierarchy, maybe he should be respected more. He would think on that later, but for now he needed to answer Zdravilo's question and press on with matters that held more urgency to him. "No, on the contrary, it's nice to have company. Especially a pretty mare like yourself" he chuckled kindly through the last part, even though he was attending to important matters he never did drop his flattery tactics. Some mares liked it, some mares didn't, there was no real harm in it unless they were completely psycho. Then he'd have to make his way to the nearest exit. Zdravilo seemed like a mare who had the screws in the right places at least, or she seemed like she did anyway. It had been sometime since he'd had an actual conversation with someone that wasn't to do with recruiting. In the end, Descaro decided it was a nice change and he could watch the borders at the same time with little problem.

The warrior waited for her to consider his question, physical exterior a picture of patience, but on the inside he was dying to know her answer. When the words finally came they were not what he was expecting at all. She seemed to have more of a prejudice towards the Pegasus than any other and she didn't really elaborate on the equines. He pondered each of her words, deciding that there was some base there for him to sway her even further. To taint her mind and to tell tales of battle, maybe one day she would hear a different version and it would be up to her to decide which she believed. The stallion noted her question to which he immediately knew his answer to, there was no real difference between the pegasus and the equine apart from the obvious. They were both idiotic races that didn't deserve the accolades the world gave them. One day, the Plague would strip those from them. "I agree the winged vermin are nothing special, though a wise warrior would heed their few strengths. Ignorance can kill you in battle." He said rather shortly, like the thought of them had put a foul taste in his mouth.

Next he addressed her question with a dark smile through deepening suave tones, "Both and those unicorns who would seek to side with them. They have committed many crimes and to be mentioned alongside them like we're equals is sickening. We are the better species, our blood has always been sacred, spoke of in legend and song. We deserve to sit at the top." Descaro rather growled through the last part, not meeting Zdravilo's eyes whilst he gave the horizon a stony stare. He was normally short spoken, not offering many words and when he did it was like he had laced them in honey. However, this was something he felt strongly about and it showed through the tone of his voice.

It took a minute or two for his face to finally soften and he turned his smouldering gaze back to the golden patched mare beside him. "Wouldn't you rather sit at the top?" He asked in a much softer voice, he didn't want the mare to think he was angry with her for any reason as he quickly reeled in his emotions.

The Scourge

"No, on the contrary, it's nice to have company. Especially a pretty mare like yourself." Flattered, she let her lips curl into a slight smile. If horses could blush, she definitely was. Never had she been called 'pretty' before. It was a sweet complement, but she wanted to stay off of the topic of flirting. She was awkward when she tried to flirt so... Moving on, she answered plainly. "Thank you, Descaro. I'm glad I am not bothering you." It was quite for a few moments as she edged even closer.

He spoke, and when he said it, it was bitter. It seemed almost as if he really hated that. She was slightly confused. Was she too, supposed to hate them? Descaro seemed wise, but was he truly? He had said, "I agree the winged vermin are nothing special, though a wise warrior would heed their few strengths. Ignorance can kill you in battle. Both and those unicorns who would seek to side with them. They have committed many crimes and to be mentioned alongside them like we're equals is sickening. We are the better species, our blood has always been sacred, spoke of in legend and song. We deserve to sit at the top." Was that something an un-wise horse would say?

Zdravilo trusted Descaro, and she trusted his judgement. With that, she tusted what he believed. She too would tried to think as if she was him for a moment. All unicorn herd, want to be on top, and harsh history with other species. This was solid racism, and she'd always been told that was wrong, but was it really? Their conversation had been deprived of speech for a little bit of time, but he quickly ended the silence. His question really came fast at her. "I know I don't want to be on the bottom, but I also would hate to be the bossy ruler who everyone hates." What she spoked seemed wise to her, but would it seem wise to Descaro?

Zdravilo had news that she wanted to share also, and after the talking stopped for a moment she swooped in to say her news. "Also, I got myself put into a rank." She smiled softly and elegantly as she so often did. Blinked a few times she stood wide eyed, and just overall, bright and vibrant. Zdravilo could not be described as dull, nor gloomy. Matter of fact, she was the complete opposite.

"Thinking. Speaking. Acting."

Eye credits go to baylee.

He laughed a short, amused laugh when she instead spoke in gratitude to his compliment. At least she let him down gently and wasn't the type of mare to jump to wild conclusions. All in all, Descaro rather liked Zdravilo as a friend, she seemed quite strong in will... For a mare. He noticed her edge a little closer, but he remained steadfast looking out into the horizon, watching for trouble whilst contemplating their interesting conversation. There was silence then as she seemed to be thinking over his words and he waited for her anxiously, it was a shaky subject and one that could turn sour in an instant. The Soldier was patient and had chosen his words carefully, in minds of many what he was suggesting was considered dark thoughts, but really was it? A lot of the time, Descaro felt he was living in a completely different world to those who chose to live within their means and accept an average life.

It was something he simply couldn't do.

The stallion was silent the whole time Zdravilo said nothing and only twitched his ears when finally she spoke to him. He smiled and nodded in understanding, no matter what goal you wanted the objective was always the same. To be loved. That Descaro could agree on. He let one dark eye stray to her alabaster face, feeling the breeze pick up his dark mane as he replied softly still. "Then I suppose you'd have to compromise somewhere, decide which need is greater. In the end, they are no better than us, the pegasus and equine. They wage war and destroy our homes and harm our children. You will find many who claim to be 'protectors of peace', but they are the biggest destroyers of the one thing they want to protect, they fear us so much that they will form huge alliances just to take our land from us, our home. Then the bastards have the audacity to call us monsters and the funny thing is, we've never started a battle. Tell me, am I wrong to want more than this? They deserve to feel the pain of being outcast like we have been, why should we be the only race that suffers?"

His voice was thick with passion and he fell silent for a moment before finally his face lit up when she mentioned her new rank, smiling broadly when he spoke for the last time. "Great news! What rank did you choose?" He asked, genuinely interested. Her vibrancy rubbing off on the stallion.

The Scourge
And it is, I, Zdravilo.

She listened closely to his every word. She knew what she wanted to say, but this situation seemed.. strange. She knew very well he was rasicst and that was most likely the reason for the hate, but she couldn't help but feel a pinch of hate of the equine and pegasus. With respect, she nodded. Wisdom well visible in her eyes. This was indeed a delicate subject. With one wrong move it could drastically whirl out of hand. She'd learnt two things from Descaro. The first thing was, that the Basin horses were known as monsters. The second thing being, unicorns were seemingly ousted for their horn.

Now was time for her to speak. "It is certainly not wrong, nor punishable, to want more, Descaro. We've all had a bit of lust, and it may just be how others interpret things. Horses that ostrasize the unicorn race must be air-headed, for they just see it as war and battle, when really it's wanting to do more... feel more." That would suffice for the first question, but she needed to think of an answer to the second.

"Do you really think we are the only that suffer?" She asked him with curiosity. She really didn't know the answer. She wanted to know what Descaro thought. He seemed level-headed, bu she didn't let the guard she had down. "I'm a scourge!" She smiled and tossed her head happily. She was happy, and excited. She choose to follow the medical path so she could help give back to the Basin. She was lacking somewhat in strength, and her mind was much stronger. Instead of slowing the warriors, she wanted to help speed up the healers.

"blah blah blah."

He smiled at her response, happy that she understood some of his feelings though he wondered if the mare was beginning to form her own opinion. What path would she follow? It was a little early to mention the plague, although he considered her a friend, he could not trust her with such information yet. For the mahogany stud still found the mare's thoughts a mystery, but was happy over all that she had sympathized with him. There was a spark of hope there yet to turn her onto the plague's side and to view the world through their eyes. The brute nodded once to her reply before once again turning to look out across the snowy landscape, taking in the fresh air as eyes scanned the horizon for intruders and ears flickered intently. The Soldier not forgetting he had come up here on patrol duty. Zdravilo seemed to fall silent for a moment, as if she was still contemplating his words and he waited patiently for her to speak once again.

Once the painted mare did, Descaro had to take a few minutes to ponder the question. Do you think we are the only that suffer? It was a fair question to ask and the stallion's immediate reaction would've been to snort and proclaim that he cared little for others. Though he stopped his trembling lips and forced himself to consider it, after all, Zdravilo had been nice enough to answer each of his questions with thought. Turning it over a few more times in his mind, Descaro came to the conclusion that there probably were many suffering all over the world, not just Helovia. Yet, it was a fools errand to try and help them all.

"No. Though I can only speak from my own view and it always seems the unicorn gets the worst end of the deal. It's a bias perspective as most opinion's are, I look out for my own and protect my own. That's all I want to do" he said finally in a quieter voice, but firm in his words. Like most wanted to protect their family, so did Descaro. The Basin and The Plague was his family to protect and keep from danger. Eyes drifted back to Zdravilo to catch the flourishing smile as she announced her rank as Scourge and Descaro let out a jovial laugh, turning his head to onside with his eyes glittering in humour. "Ah! Medicine then, a noble choice! Though your head of discipline has somewhat warped views on the matter of healing" he continued laughing through his words, an image of the grumpy d'Artagnan entering his mind.

The Scourge
And it is, I, Zdravilo.

Oh, Descaro. He was indeed... Unique. Though I rather enjoyed having him with me. He was a warrior, and grouchy sort of, but I still enjoyed his presence. As many things, I had side effects for horses. For example, I had already seen my uppity nature rubbing off on many horses. Also, many horses seemed to like me. I wasn't all that sure if they had different motives. Sometimes I felt like the little girl with the snowy hair that is being targeted by older people. Maybe my mind hadn't finished forming totally, as I was barely 3.

I don't know.

Enough about my silly thoughts. I kept my smile there though it faded some as he told me about his thoughts. It did seem true. The fact that unicorns got the worst end, and all we could do was watch. Maybe that was why we were racist. We are used to cold soldiers, so why would we be nice back?

I didn't know much about being racist, though I guess I would learn.

"Yes, I see what you are saying. Though if we truly wanted them gone, could we not pretend to love them and their bareheads and wings? Eventually we'd turn and they'd be rendered useless, for their guards were down. Though I admit, the ones I've met on my path here weren't all that easy to get along with. I don't know... I'm new here and don't know the relationships here." I spoke softly to him. This part of the conversation was like walking on eggshells for me.

Unsafe.

"Yes! Medicine!" I lifted my head slightly as my smile beamed wider. She ignored his last part. There was bad and good in everything. Though, right now, I was oddly attracted to the slightly warmer side of Descaro, though I didn't show it... At all.

It would be awkward if this went any further.

"blah blah blah."
