The sky was a darker than most nights; the stars far from shining upon her as they hid behind streaks of dark gray clouds. No sight of the moon it was an instant bad omen, and she endlessly kept checking behind her so paranoid now that she was free. Who could blame her? What energy she had left would not be enough to elude any hunters. It would take little to bring her back at this point in time. Already she had come so far. Nostrils flared sharply sure she could still detect the smoke when she realized it was here too. Her breath trapped tight in her chest, adrenaline threatening to rise and send her in a panicked run. She almost wanted it, begged for her body to simply take over. She could make it much further with it in her blood. Rapidly breathing her heart rate rose, and sounded like the thundering hooves of her would be captors. Nervous, her ears would twist, and her tail of red highlights would twitch around her hocks. She was so sure this was the end when the hoot of an owl snapped her into reality. She was free.

It was with a deep pull of air she collected her senses, and brought her memories of what life had been before the war. It was with them she was able to continue to the threshold of Helovia, exactly where Alexandria had told her to run. It was rough, trying not to let panic creep back up as it was clear fires were here too. Her silvery hooves crunched the dry flakes of grass beneath her, and she tried to keep away from the distant glow of amber. A shuffled pace, a snort she could not help vibrated her muzzle. She was sick of fear claiming her life, but it had kept her alive this long. With steady falling steps of her own hooves it was under the cover of night she entered into foreign grounds. She would have liked to be in the daylight to see everything naked and exposed. Faelene's wishes, and wants had never been. She had always had to simply make due. Dark toned eyes grew wide, and they tested what she saw before her to be true when her head scanned from east to west. It was not exactly what she had expected, it looked hardly different from the place she had left behind...except this was not all ash. It was with a wary sigh she took her time slipping past the recent scents of others.

She had no idea what awaited her here. A new hell was the words that pressed on her tongue, and once more she turned her snout to check her blind spots. Then her nostrils would open further to make sure she was really alone. For the time she was, and she let out a pinch of air in gratitude. If her father and mother had given her something it was her darkened coat of silver and onyx which could blend to this setting of shadow and smoke.

Where to hide? It was under the tall, open arms of green needled trees she took refuge. She was very tired and in need of sleep, but she did not let her guard down. She clipped at the dull grass trying to prepare herself to encounter another equine.

It was rare, these days it seemed, for Descaro to make such an appearance. After fleeing the shadows the warrior had mulched around the Edge for sometime, only meeting d'Artagnan from time to time. However, on this night the bulky stag made his way to the Threshold. Bored of flittering about the herd land for once. There was scent of a mare in the air to which he puffed himself up and tracked her down. Sun beat grass brushed against his legs as her presence got stronger, his horn glittering in the moonlight.

He couldn't quite make out all her details, her pelt already dark like the sky. The one thing that took him by surprise was her red mane, like she'd draped herself in blood. Descaro stared curiously at her, trying to make out her horn. It looked like a branch, which made him doubt his vision for a moment but soon realized it was attached to her head. How interesting she is... his thoughts trailed off as his footfalls came nearer. The warriors dark hide came into view under the moons light and he slowed his pace to a halt, not wanting to scare the mare. "Hello sister, I'm Descaro. May I ask your name?" His vocals were kind and sincere, it was a while since he spoke to anyone. Especially a mare.

He stood back a little while, awaiting her reply. A bundle of thick mane roughly flopped to one side, his forelock entangled on an ear.

Grazing to still her thoughts, keeping herself focused on the outside world, she ate very little. There were distant conversations, far off hoof beats and there was little time her lips remained low to the ground. It wasn't like she had much of an appetite any way, her teeth grounding away the tasteless long pieces that crunched in her mouth. It was better than what she had been eating, but she wondered how much of the land had suffered like this. Would green grass be an option here? Ears angling back, she cocked her hind leg, her red tresses swishing against the side of her rump in her wait. She wasn't sure what to expect, and the unknown she would admit scared her. She had a few scars of her past on the outside. Simple long, and short thin lines adorning her flanks. They were barely lighter than her coat, and unless someone was scanning her so closely they were often not noticed. It was on the inside she wasn't sure how hidden they were. She no longer put out the scent of fear, but it was not totatly gone.

Letting her head droop, her eyes began to slowly close. Quickly as her eyes closed her head would fall, and she would snap her skull upward. She could sleep in the morning, she urged herself if this might bring comfort she needed. She shifted her weight between her four pillars, and began to hum an old song to keep herself from drifting to sleep. The song had barely began when she was certain she heard more crunches of the decayed grass. Her thick muscles tensed in her shoulders, and neck. There was already someone coming to check her out this she was certain, and she was not entirely prepared. It had been a long time since she had seen a free unicorn. There had to be free ones if this was where her guardian had sent her, but she took a step back into the shadow, holding a high stance to keep her ground. It could be a breed of her enemy.

She saw him, she thought before he spied her. She was probably wrong about that, her dark eyes catching the shine from his pearly horn. It was beacon of light to her, already putting some of her fears to rest. She let her jaws unclench, but the rest of her body was bound tight ready to fight or take flight. She watched his movement, taking in his red features, and white snip upon his nose. There was a gloss to his muscles as they rippled beneath his chestnut hide. There was nothing threatening in the way he met her, calling her a sister and politely asking of her name. He had given her his, and she placed it to memory with a perfect image. She was not about to trust him just because he was a unicorn, her kind, but she had little choice as always. He had information she needed, and she could use an ally. She was not sure about this realm, and it's works. Besides her instinct was not beckoning her to run, and run fast.

She cantered her head to the side, peering at him with a single eye. "Faelene," she offered in her own warm tones. Her red mane shifted along her faded onyx hide when she turned to peer at him more curiously with both her eyes. "You wander freely?" She inquired, trying her best to keep a normal conversation. She could not remember the last time she had chatted with someone she had wanted to speak to. Her question was probably strange to him, but there was only one way to find out.

Faelene

Descaro watched and listened with intent. Her warm voice sounding out across the night. He proffered his head to catch her next words, the dark depths of his hide making him almost invisible if it wasn't for the moonlight. She was enticing herself as the bulky stag appreciated her attributes, her red mane more so. The brute had never seen such a colour on his kind before. It intrigued him to say the least. Her question was caught in his fluffy lobes to which he flicked one back in slight amusement. I wonder what her meaning of 'free' is... A welcoming smile broke out across his face as she finished speaking and first complimented her name "a very pretty name. It befits your appearance" Descaro flattered the lovely Faelene before deciding what he was going to say next.

He'd never offered sanctuary before. In fact he'd never spoken to many here in Helovia apart from the grumpy sod, d'Artagnan. It was still a mystery why he had chosen now to come out of hiding, but right now the stallion deciding he should fulfill his role as 'Warrior' of the Worlds Edge. "You may wander freely here but be careful of roaming into 'claimed' land." He stopped for a moment, realizing he would have to explain to the mare before him exactly what the Regions were. Taking in a breath Descaro began once more "There are 3 major regions in Helovia. The Windtossed Foothills, The Dragons Throat and The Worlds Edge. I myself am a warrior of King Mauja's unicorn herd at the Edge... I can take you back to my King if you would like to join our herd, Faelene?" His vocals were kind and offering, hoping that the pretty mare would come back with him. Maybe more so for her delightful appearance rather than duty.

Normal conversation.[/i] Whatever that meant, she briefly mused to herself with an attempt to smile to the fellow. It was strange merely being here, and talking to a complete stranger, a free unicorn. It was in the moment she made a silent agreement to keep the past years of her life vague. There could be mention of tyranny, but she would play a different part. She was afraid of what others may think, and their attitude toward her. She wanted to be seen as who she was, and not what she had been. It was with a subtle sigh, she lifted her chin a bit more confidently. Alexandra had promised her freedom here, and what else would she need?

Chance of a compliment brought a more visible smile across her silvery lips. She would take it for what it was meant for with a kind mutter of,"Thank you." Her dark mask became thoughtful when he exclaimed what was expected in this terrain. Ears plainly pointed upon him she listened, trying to remember each different kingdom, but she was probably going to have to ask what they were again at some point in time. None the less she was happy for his share of information, she would need it. The ridges above her eyes wrinkled slightly, impressed by his title. World's Edge would etch itself a little firmer in her mind with his picture, and own name. "A warrior, what a fitting position." What she did not expect was the full herd of unicorns, and the fact there was a King. The stories Alexandra had told her were true, and her breath caught in her throat, the only tell of her surprise. She had dreamed of what her own homelands had been, to think it was real here...

There was more to it then that, he had just offered to take her to his King...to a new home. A soft laugh, a mixture of small joy and simple wonderment she nodded her head. "I would gladly...." She answered not hiding the fact she was clearly static about everything she had just heard, and learned about Helovia.

Descaro watched the mare reply, proffering his head at the compliment of his title happy she had acknowledged it. His mane lifted a little in the slight breeze, revealing the toned curve of his neck. Faelene spoke once more, broadening the smile of the Warrior's face as she agreed to come back with him. The steed flicked his thick obsidian tail and turned half way, as if motioning to go back from where he came. A moment crossed his mind as he wondered if she was a racist unicorn. He decided to wait on that question until they had ventured back into the herd land and not discuss it openly in the Threshold.

Cloven hooves turned his body into the opposite direction and began to carry him back to the Edge, "This way then, Faelene." Descaro offered over his shoulder. Dark hide wondering off into the night. Destination, home.

[I'll start another thread in the Worlds Edge for them so she can be accepted!]
