Attentive and now silent, Smoke watched and listened as Mirage displayed her point and spoke her piece after a belated appearance from Thor. Slightly she inclined her head, then started. An image of a golden stallion with pale mane and tail had popped into her awareness through the bond she shared with Zaffre. At first she was confused, thinking the blue had plumbed that tidbit from her memory, but then she caught the observational curiousity that thrummed in the dragon.
That was an image of... the present. Slowly, not wanting to get her hopes up, she turned to look. Yes, there was a golden stallion there, making his way through the crowd toward her. Tension vibrated through the Wild Rose as her dark eyes rapidly sought out telltale markers. Was this him, or just another golden stallion, new to the herd, that knew of her as healer? There, there was the small star beneath his snowy forelock. And there! The tall stocking on his left hind. Was it too good to be true? Could there be, by some wild coincidence, a second stallion marked just as he was?
No, it must be him. "Marius?" Her voice was barely above a whisper, body turning toward him. Muscles quivered as she reached her head out to him. "Marius?" Louder now, almost carrying above the low hum that was ever present in such a large crowd. One step, two.
Now Zaffre was on alert, baffled by the reaction his bonded was having to the sight of the strange stallion who was approaching them. He'd never seen such a one. Keen to know more, he delved into the bond, reading the thoughts and emotions roiling in the grulla mare whose haunches he still perched upon. Confusion gave way to rising excitement of his own as he grasped the meaning of the moment. Clear and joyous, his warbling trill rose into the air.
"Marius!" First foal!
Together the two cries echoed, one within the ears of those gathered, the other within their minds. A cry of recognition, and a cry of sympathetic delight that inadvertantly explained the entire situation to all present.
Abandoning all holds on dignity, Smoke leapt forward, heedlessly pushing past any who stood too close to her path to reach her son. Into the air leapt Zaffre, shadowing her path to circle and weave above grulla mare and golden stallion as Smoke thrust her muzzle briefly to touch Marius', then took those next steps to press against him and hook her neck over his in a fierce hug. "Oh by the Gods I thought you gone to me forever! But you're safe! And somehow you found your way here!"
