It had been so long since they had spoken to anyone. So very long since their eyes fell on colored hides, felt the warmth of a touch and the camaraderie of those who stood grazing side by side, connected by nothing more than a simple idea, a common goal. He had moved away from all that, shut himself out of the herd that he loved so that he could bring some semblance of calm and steadiness to the raging chaos that had been his mind. Too much had happened at that time, too many loyalties and too much interference... Too much magic. And when Mirage finally had approached him along with Rishima with the intent of placing the burden of leadership over his shoulder, something had snapped. The scales had tipped over and despite his wish to please the Dragonheart he had declined. Rather bluntly at that, without offering any kind of explanation. Reason had nothing to do with it; he had simply turned his back on honor and duty and rather hurriedly retreated to his solitary glen deep within the dark forest.

He wasn't proud of it. In fact, it had been hard to stay away at first and avoid charging back out to immediately apologize to the black mare whom he had sworn to follow. How he must have disappointed her. Fajira hadn't been very impressed, and the constant nagging from the pearly dragon had done little to soothe his guilty conscience. It was she too who had dragged him forth now, flying high above his head while heeding a call Lace had been tempted to ignore for the solitude these months had made him accustomed to.

The gold-cloaked stallion had dragged his feet behind him, heart pounding at the prospect of facing all those familiar faces again. Would they hate him for coming and going as he pleased? Would they be angry to see him, now that he had left them to fend for themselves? But perhaps it was nothing more than plain arrogance on his part, to believe even for a second that these strong, confident and capable creatures wouldn't be able to manage without him.

Humbled by the though the silver stallion broke through the edge of the dark forest that was his home, gilded eyes roving hungrily over the backs of the horses that had gathered around Mirage. He was late, the meeting had already started and he had to piece together the topic from the questions and subsequent answers that rang through the air. It seemed the Edge had grown in numbers once again. There were more unfamiliar faces scattered amongst his comrades than before, both adult and young. He lingered on the small shapes of the foals between the WeyrLeader and Vikram; Fajira had notified him of the happy tiding that their queen had given birth, but it still felt strange to think of her as a mother. Would they be similar to her in her mysterious ways? The thought called fourth a slight smile of amusement across the dark lips, and with a vague feeling of homecoming the stallion quietly moved around the gathering until he found a spot not far from the leaders, content with simply listening to what was being said.
