[For Imi with D'art]

The day was bright and early, the mists of the Edge had still clung to the golden and cream mare's back as she silently slipped from the place she now called home. Her body weight had dropped a lot after having the twins, and even more so as she had begun to think about Ata again. How was it the icy blue eyed stallion could still haunt her dreams? Was he angry that she she had fled with Aaron? Or was it her own imagination running wild? The fem did not know. Even her flings with Azale's father and Torasin had not gotten him fully off her mind. It was for this reason the fem left to go to the Heavenly Fields. She needed to be alone, away from the herd.

The morning air was cold, making her wish for the warmth of another one more time.... But no. She was happy with the children she had as each was special in their own way. She smiled as she reached the top of the rocky path, moving into the grassy field before her. A small part of her was glad Aaron had been born first. He was so much like his father, but not just Ata. He was strong and fierce like her own father and the stories she heard of Ata's father. He was also the perfect big brother for her daughters. Little Azale had been next, and at first she regretted her. A one night stand with someone she did not even know... But out of the union she gained a beautiful child. Sure Azale was different but that made her special.... Her last two had been a surprise... Never before had she nor Tor realized how much they cared for each other. Granted it was nothing like what she had with Ata or he had with Brooke.... But it was something to numb the pain for a while... Out of it they gained two beautiful daughters, Sakura and Takara. What a surprise it had been for the twin to give birth to twins.

She finally understood how her mother felt after losing her father. She had wanted comfort, and sought it in the only place she knew.... Sure it meant Solstice had a half brother, but oh how much she wished she had acted differently. It all made sense to her now. Perhaps the Gods meant for it to be this way and had taken Ata from her for this reason.

It was with all of this running through her mind she stood looking out over the edge, the sun starting to warm her pelt ever so slightly.

d'Artagnan stopped at the bottom of the path that lead up to the Heavenly Fields, watching Aramis with amusement as the pup seemed to have hiccups. For every two steps he took the next would be with a slight bounce as his body rattled with the little blighters. What was most intriguing, and the reason d'Artagnan stopped to watch, was that with each hiccup came a tiny burst of fire or small embers. Even the pup had a bemused look on his face as his mouth displayed wisps of smoke that was in fact natural for a Hellhound, just like a bird learnt to fly, Aramis must by nature learn how to breathe fire. That was in his blood and made up who he was. This was only the beginning of a long process and slowly, but surely, the hell dog would learn how to wield his fire properly. Until then, he'd just have to try his best and deal with strange fiery hiccups as well as the amused looks d'Artagnan gave him. No doubt later they would be followed with rather snide comments to amuse the shade further, much at Aramis's expense. Though all would be in good heart.

Still chuckling, d'Artagnan moved off up the difficult pathway that lead to the Heavenly Fields with his mind on foraging for more poisonous material he could take back to his cave of wonders. It was when he was nearing the top that he began to question his decision about coming to the Heavenly Fields, grimacing at the effort of the hard walk and grumpily noting the change in season meant his age had now gone into double figures. Which, on it's own, was depressing for the crimson boy who was very sensitive about his age. No matter, he puffed harder and carried onwards to the top, staring old age down with contempt. He would not be defeated by a mere number, the thought was quite insulting. The Nightshade would sooner have Mauja bump him off that cliff before any damned number took him.

Staring out across the field that was in the grip of winter, he first began to look downwards for anything interesting. After all, if there was a plant still thriving in these conditions, then it was one to take note of. However, it was a fleshy green stem that caught the shade's eyes. Instead, in was four pale legs and a scent that was strangely familiar. On the growl of his hound, d'Artagnan looked upwards sharply, dual coloured eyes falling on the painted form of none other than Solstice. His former captive, all alone and rather skinny looking. Taking a few steps forwards, the Nightshade smiled a dark cold smirk before falling to a halt a few paces away from her. Twisting his head to one side as he rather pitied her weak form and lack of horns, a creature like that only wasted space on the earth.

"Oh look what I've found, my old prison buddy. You have no luck do you, you've been caught in the same trap again little pest" came his cold hearted voice as Aramis snapped and growled at his side. Little flames still flying from his mouth and claws unravelled, sinking into the ground. This time he didn't really feel like taking her back to the Basin, in his mind it would only be a waste of time. It would be much better if she just... Disappeared.

She turned at the approach of another, but not fast enough as the cold chilling voice of her once captor met her ears. In an instant her ears flatten against her neck and she wheeled to face him. It seemed this time things were different. This time she was alone, with no reason for anyone to come after her... This time he was not... A small hellhound pup was at his side, maybe about the same age as Aaron's hellhound Alanna.... Oh what she wouldn't give for that little garnet and ivory pup to arrive here now.. But no. Solstice knew it was not to be. With her ears still pinned backward she snarled at D'Artagnan What do you want this time? Come to take me away from my family again you coward?! With a snort and a stomp Solstice made it clear. She would return to the Basin... As a dead body.

She could feel her old magic, magic gained from the Tome Guardian of Isilme, welling up inside her. But no, not yet. She would not use it just yet. Maybe if he were closer, or in a different position she would try to run. But at the same time she just felt tired.... Tired of fighting, tired of losing those she loved, tired of just.... living. Was this really her time to die? Her mother has been tired, and heartbroken just as she. But no... No surely the mother of four had much more to live for than that of her mother before her.... No, she didn't. The twins were nearly yearlings, Azale was just over a year old now, and Aaron was three. None of them needed her did they?

d'Artagnan fell to a halt a few yards away from her and sneered at her challenging words. They looked to be alone at the top of the world and at the end of this; one of them was not coming back down. How long ago was it since he had this mare as a prisoner and her delightful son had come to save her. What a pity he didn't manage to kill the overgrown paint that day whose use of fire would live long into the Nightshade's memory. No, today he would make up for those mistakes in the past and take away the one he cared about the most. It was a monstrous thing to do, but that was exactly what he was born to be. What he had slowly become and what now inhabited his entire being. Bloodlust. Murder. Acquired tastes found in few and often in colts like himself, whose first sight of the world was a battlefield and his duty was to remove those who got in his father's way. d'Artagnan had not changed much except this time he simply removed those that either got in his own way or had the bad luck of running into him on a bad day.

"Pain. Loneliness. Hatred. I wonder if that is what your son will feel when I take you away from him. Poor mother, I have no reason for doing this, other than I want to. This is what I was born to do" with that he unleashed his magic in attempt to encase the mare in it's narcotic embrace, soothing and calling her into the depths of dreams or nightmares. Sinking slowly into her body, willing her to close her eyes and slumber, attempting to tug her into unconsciousness. This time d'Artagnan's weapon of choice would not be poison, the fact was he had none on him and he already had a plan in mind. He could feel his blood beginning to race and his legs tremble, an image of him ending her life with a slice of his horn. However, the Nightshade never moved an inch the whole time, his gaze filled with the lust of a stallion gone mad. Mad with the need for blood. Equine blood.

Curling lips and hoping his magic had done the trick of sedating Solstice, the crimson murderer turned his head slowly to one side. It was time to cut the Worlds Edge short of another member, "Aramis. Kill her." Still sprouting short bursts of fire, the hell dog shot from his master's side and jumped to latch onto the jugular of the mare. Teeth and flames tearing, burning at flesh. His attack was a swift one, if contact was made perfectly, the hound was kind and his blow was aimed to be a quick easy death. The hornless would feel little pain in her hopefully sedated state as her life was taken away by a dog who was now covered in hot, wet blood. The markings on his coat glowed and emphasized the red as large paws splashed through the crimson puddles and back to d'Artagnan who nodded once in approval. In all hopes the deed was done and his gaze slowly lost the wildness of madness, the stallion knew the day he died that hells gates would gladly embrace him. The hopes of heaven was gone and there was no need to hold back now, he was already heading for the black abyss where none could save him.

Still stood like a statue, he looked on emotionless towards where the mare was.

"Farewell hornless."

Little did she know, taking her away from her family was just what the Time Mender had in mind. No, he had not come to kill her this day... But fate and destiny had decided it was time. he wind blew chilly and cold, even as the sun warmed her back for one last time. Something inside her seemed to click, realizing the situation... Realizing she was not going to be walking away... Here in the Heavenly Fields, she would lay down one last time and remain forever. This realization was hard. How would her children cope? Would they be alright? Sakura and Takara still had Torasin to look after them... Aaron was a full grown stallion, and Azale nearly a full grown mare... They could all handle themselves... She planted her hooves firmly in the ground, beginning to call upon her magic.. It was a call that came to late.

As the blood bay spoke, Solstice could feel her own emotions being soothed away. Her hazel eyes glassed over as the magic took its effect. Her eye lids closed for one final time. She tossed her head, struggling against the magic and willing her own to work.... But her body and mind were just to tired to fight it off. In her magic induced slumber, she dreamed....

Two young foals, a grullo sabino filly and a bay splashed colt played around Aaron's feet... Alanna, now fully grown playing with them. Solstice smiled, watching them.. But quickly the scene changed from that of a happy one, to that of her family who died before her screaming in pain and agony. Her mother and father both yelling at her, but no words could be heard from their mouths... Her older sister Isabella, standing with them and screaming. She turned, looking behind her and could see both Aderes and Gabriel galloping around as if trying to call her backward. Behind them was her children, Aaron comforting his younger sisters as they looked at the ground..... At her.... She whispered softly 'I'm sorry.' Before she suddenly faded to black.

All the while she never felt a thing. The hellhound made perfect contact to her jugular, perhaps the only grace she had was not feeling a thing. Her body slumped to the ground, crimson blood pouring out all over the hellhound and the ground below them. Here she would lay down, never to rise again. All the while, a garnet and ivory hellhound stood at the very edge that lead into the field....

Aaron</style>
World's Edge Glazier
And Shepherds we shall be
For thee, my Lord, for thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand
Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls shall it ever be.

Icy blue eyes looked on as Aaron, at the base of the path waited on the pup and his mother to come back. Instead Alanna flashed images in his mind that warned him to stay down and away. It was to late for them to save her, but in time to see the evil sick bastard that took his mother's life away. Never again would he or his sisters feel the comforting nudges of their mother... She was always the one that bonded them together. He nearly hit his knees as he watched the blood pour from her neck. The damage the hellhound had done was to great for any healer no matter the skill...

Alanna stood, ready to pounce in and fight but it was to late. She and her bonded had come to find his mother, to tell her of Torasin's murder.... Only to witness the murder of his own mother through another's eyes....

It was only then it hit him... Not only was he an orphan, so were Takara and Sakura. He had been coming to bring his mother safely home and tell her of Torasin's murder... Only to see... Anger boiled up but Alanna seemed to hold him together. Now was not the time or the place. They would get revenge on the Basin, on the Time Mender who had left two pink scars down his side.... But not now... Now his family needed him and Alanna safe and whole. The garnet pup already was at his side, tugging urgently on his feathering... They needed to move, they needed to go! She growled and snapped at him lighty before they both took off at a blistering run. The path home was one well know, and the tears began to fall from the Glazier's eyes long before the path to the heavenly fields was out of sight.

Dead.

It was over and finally d'Artagnan began to feel himself return back to normality. He was a strange beast, a deadly monster, he needed death like he needed air. Twisted and heartless he gazed at her body with nothing but an increasing sense of boredom. The deed was done and his hunger satisfied for now, he had no reason and to kill was his goal, death was his future. d'Artagnan knew all these things and the older he got the more fed up he became with the world around him, the more he tossed his head to the sky and smirked to the heavens. Was this it? Was this all the 'righteous' race were made of? He turned to Aramis and ushered for them to leave, to go home to the frozen mountains and the dark damp caves. Back to those who possessed more noble blood than the wench that littered the floor crimson behind him. Coal hocks lifted with ease from the ground, followed by the red stained paws of his hell dog and the pair, in a picture of calm, moved to begin their long journey home.

However, they had not gone far when the soot and merlot hound swung round, heckles lining his back and a vicious growl ripping from his velvet maw armed with sharp pointed teeth. Apparently somebody was there, though for all his peering d'Artagnan couldn't quite spot them. So he had been seen at the crime. By the scent it was another from the Edge, though the stud cared little to find out more. Flicking his tail, a picture of uncaring, he turned a blue eye on Aramis and snorted impatiently. "Come dog! If they seek retribution they know where to find us." Came sharp gruff tones, to which the hell dog quickly scampered, heckles still raised and throwing the odd glance over his shoulder. Red markings coming to life once again.

With that the pair left the Heavenly Fields, leaving behind their victim for her family to find. The Nightshade wondered if they would indeed come after him, he would be sorely disappointed if they didn't, would they really leave their precious hornless without revenge she so deserved? He thought more, wondering if they'd cry and enjoyed himself over the mental image. The crimson monster chuckled deeply and madly all the way back down the rocky path, eyes wide with deathly fire.
