Limbs were growing older each day, but with the agile and steady pace with which the beast moved, you would likely never guess he was aging still. One of the few reasons he had to be thankful for his strange lineage. Over all of these years, there were few that Osiris would call his friends. Many who looked at his life with a more optimistic view would likely blame the creature himself, so wrapped in self-loathing that he doubted many relationships from the start. Yet, in the deep recesses of the hybrid, there had been sparks of hope inspired by others. Smothered, perhaps unavoidably, by circumstances that he had little control over. All of those close to him disappeared, except, of course, for the ever present Comadre and the lady Ophelia.

Ophelia, the girl he had met in the caves of Isilme. She had grown into a leader and a powerful mind. Now, as his paws stepped surely on familiar turf, they moved on her orders.

It was a blessing for him to have earned the friendship of one such as Ophelia, for he had done little in his life to deserve it. Still, for whatever reason, the dark temptations of his soul have wavered in the later years of his life. The days he followed the likes of Oblivion were over. Now, he safely lay in a band of mercenaries. Evil enough, yet not for the same mindless destruction the skull-faced manipulator was after. Instead, it was survival which trapped them in such circumstances. Their numbers were few, especially when they lay in the shadows of much larger, robust herds. Skilled warriors and spies, yet numbers were still a worry. What could can twenty strong do against fifty? Maybe he was making excuses for remaining in the shadows of life. Whatever the reason, he was not yet ready to step directly into the light.

Golden eyes hesitate for a moment in the shadows of the trees as he looked out at the burnished sand. The sun above gleaming against the grains and reflecting light into his eyes. A heavy sigh escapes his lungs. The dragon on his back begins to stir. Why the sigh, Osiris? he asks, one violet eye opening as he snakes his neck about to look around his bonded. The crash of waves beats the vision of bright sand. The reptile knows the reason behind his sudden shift in mood now, even before the beast takes a step into the sun, ears pert. The wolf already knew she would not be here, but a small hope still burned in his chest regardless. What a fickle thing hope could be.

Reaching the crest of the small hills leading to the beach beyond, the stallion stops to take in the view, scanning the horizons until his eyes latch onto two bodies. One is a deep chocolate branded with gold, while the other is bleached white in Frostfall's sun. Narrowing his eyes, he begins to walk forward, toward the bright blue of the ocean, promptlyy ignoring the unicorns who stand not far from him. An ear flicks in their direction, but his bearded face remains stoic and absent. "Lovely out here, isn't it?" Pleasantries. Nothing but a regular meeting.

Turning his face in the direction of the horned pair, a rich baritone voice arises from his chest. "A good day to you both." From his shoulder, Comadre peers up at his friend with silently questioning eyes.
