Maybe to those with aging eyes and one too many cracks on hard ravaged hooves would find such landscapes the norm. Or ones with great many a thought may miss what lays before them, the simplest of beauty lost in a myriad of raging arguments. Upon young features the greatest perception is born and lost in time. The thistles moaned as they were pressed into the earth, a flash of chestnut here and white there. A squeal ripped through his miniature maw and the bounding colt bolted across the meadow. There was a limp visible in his movements as it hampered the speeds he could reach. A startled rabbit burst from beneath the bushes, its creamy tail flickering as she fled. There was a scramble of legs before Nym finally came to a stand still to watch the creature in wonder. Everything was new and exciting, his short fur rippled in the shallow breeze.

A rather spectacular red oak grew in all his magnificence just a little way in front of the colt, blue eyes bulged at its enormity. In similar fashion as his father, but not quite as extravagant, Nym bounced along to investigate. Not long since his birth the baby paint was already showing signs of personality which included a seemingly idiotic brave streak. Where most would run Nym would be there, bright eyed and curious. It was the kind of personality that would give his princely father, Torasin, a heart attack on a daily basis. Nym found this amusing. He knew his parents would be close by and Kiba was always watching from the skies. It was these very facts that annoyed the colt, he didn't like being watched. He didn't want to be watched. Nym was sure they did this on purpose, they cared for his well being but the young tovero did not see this. He only saw them in the way of the fun. The only one he wanted by his side was Abel, his twin brother. They could run off and create some mischief of their own, it would be perfect fun. The colt was also rather lazy at times, preferring to dose than listen. Especially through lectures. It all seemed so pointless to his young mind.

The tree loomed up before him, his little head tilted upwards wondering for a moment what Abel would do. How, so big! Can I grow that big? He raised to small hooves and placed them on the tree, leaning his muzzle between them in curiosity. The woody smell entered his nostrils and he recoiled whilst screwing up his nose. Nym then proceeded to give the tree and annoyed look, as if it had somewhat offended him in someway. A stump of a tail flashed upwards and the painted son left the tree in disgust. He had expected more from such a large thing. Nym decided he would be greater than that oak tree.

The meadow was beginning to loose its draw and it was only just approaching midday. He shifted direction and moved off to the soft flowing stream to take a drink, thinking about where he could go next. Blue eyes appeared in the water before him and rippled in the waters movements, Nym bored his eyes into his own.

A second pair of blue eyes joined the first after a moment. But these were different. Larger, and placed in a face that was darker than the young colt's, for the filly who possessed those eyes had a face just as black as her mother's. Save for the wide white blaze that made such a bold statement up her face. It began between her nostrils and raced straight and even upwards to disappear beneath a forelock that echoed that sharp division. The longest strands either blended with her blaze or stood out against the dark color to either side, while the shorter strands did the opposite.

"Whatcha looking at?" Was inquired as last from the other side of the stream, as those deep blue eyes lifted from the rippling liquid surface to gaze at the smaller colt. The young grulla was only a yearling, but already stood almost twice the size of the painted youngster. Given a few seasons that would change, but the fact remained for now.

A splash upstream caught her attention, and she turned to watch a school of small fish jumping to catch the even smaller insects that hovered over the water. Her body was a mousey shade of brown that looked like it would blend in with the dry Tallsun grasses should she lay among them, but such camouflage would never be complete with a filly so startling marked in black at head and legs and tail, and further marked with white on face and in mane and tail.

There was a playful impulse within her to go splashing after those fishes, to watch their sleek bodies glint silver as they swam away from her hooves. To stand in the water until they gathered their courage to swirl around her legs and nibble at the tiny bubbles of water that would collect on her submerged hide, tickling in their fishy innocence. She almost followed that impulse, ears flicking forward, until she remembered the colt she'd already questioned.

Abruptly those blue eyes were back upon him, attention unwavering for now. Waiting for him to answer her question.

The Adventure Begins Here

A gray roan sabino mare landed, her wings swept a radius of the field. She shook her mane, sweat plastered her coat, and she folded her wings up. She noticed two other horses in the distance. She could see the shapes of a foal and what appeared to be a yearling, or another foal, she couldn't tell.

Her necklace clanged as she trotted over to the two foals. Here eyes were bright and she looked at the two foals. One was a grulla filly and the other was a paint colt.
Who are you two?
The mare stood and waited for the two foals' answers.

She unfolded one of her wings to stretch it out. She flared her nostrils and stretched her neck. She saw a flash of light come from the stream. She looked down and saw fish, swimming away from her large shadow in the water. She snorted and looked closer. She saw small insect hovering over the water. She could smell the flowers and tall grass, their scents tangling together and streaming into her nose. She glanced back at the foals, hoping they would answer her question. She flicked her tail, smacking a few flies. She flicked her ears around, listening to the birds chirping, the wind rustling the leaves and the grass, and the breathing of the two foals before her.

The mare bent her neck down even further and took a drink from the stream. She felt her energy surge after she swallowed the last gulp. Her thirst had been quenched, she felt the water coat her dry throat and tongue.

Her attention quickly went back to the two foals, waiting for them to answer her long before asked question.

Nym had never come across another. The only beings in his life were his mother, father, his twin brother and Mirage. Wide eyes looked stunned at the filly across the stream, unsure whether he should be scared or polite. Father had told him bits of the outside world and of other equids he had met. However, to the young and impressionable minds of the twins these were just stories. Thoughts did not quite venture so deep and instead played around in fantasy lands of monsters and heroes. The concept that the accounts their father told may be true hadn't come become apparent yet.

Well, until now that is.

Small ears twitched on his pommel as the young colt tried to find his voice. For a moment he thought about calling his parents, but defiance soon took over and Nym boldly cast a boyish smile across the stream to the yearling filly. "Nothing... Who are you?" There was an innocent curiosity to his voice, an honest need to begin his own story. Tell his own truths. It would start here, by this stream and this new filly.

The painted young un' didn't have to wait long until he got a reply. However, it wasn't the reply he was expecting and it didn't come from the maw of the filly before him. The child swung his head around to face the new voice, eyes bulging in sheer shock of the creature before him. Nym's mind reeled as he tried to recall if his father had ever mentioned winged horses in his stories, nothing came to him. She's huge! He marvelled at the blue roan mare. "What are you?" The words left his maw before he could even think it through.

Suddenly, Nym was aware he was surrounded by strangers. But the colt was too curious and stunned to care about his own safety.

It took a moment for the younger colt to finally speak up, inquiring after her identity after coming to grasps with her presence and her question. A quick grin crossed her features, but she didn't have a chance to respond before the sound of heavy hoofbeats and the clink of something... metallic, she thought... had her gaze lifting from the painted colt toward the older, gray pegasus who approached.

Inquisitively she watched the strange mare, intriuged by the necklace about her neck but seemingly unconcerned by the feathered appendages sprouting from her shoulders. This wasn't Kimber's first glimpse of a pegasus, but it was her first encounter with this one. Her tail, colored similarly to her mane, flicked against her haunches before she lightly bounced across the stream to stand beside to painted colt, lipping at his short mane. "She's a pegasus." She whispered conspiratorially, pleased with her greater knowledge.

Something new was stirring in the water. Something that had nothing to do with the fish or the insects. A shape uncoiled itself, stepping onto the stream's surface with a swish of a fluffy tail that sent droplets of water flying from its tip. It was undeniably shaped like a fox, and was becoming increasingly clear to be a fox, even if it was made of water. The liquid swirled within its form, carrying fine particles of silt that made the patterns woven more pronounced. With a calm deliberation it strolled along the stream's surface a few steps before leaping free. Droplets of water showered from it when its paws touched grass, and it seemed to take a moment before stablizing and trotting to sit before the pegasus mare, head tilted back to regard her through eyes that were distinctly there. The water was of a different density in them, carrying more silt so they were darker, with an uncanny appearance to change focus with brief inquisitive glances about.

Kimber giggled as she watched the fox, knowing it for the creature of magic that followed her ever since the Earth God graced her with magic. Sometimes it was the fox, sometimes it was a couple of ferrets. But they were always close by, even if she didn't see them. "I'm Kimber, and he'd mine." She nodded at the fox at that, making her own necklace of blue and blue-green stone rattle gently.
