déodat,
The Corporal was nothing that Déodat expected upon first meeting her, though he was still compelled to indulge her in spite of her childlike demeanor. However, could he blame her for seeking out the isolation of the Arch in order to spoil her right to “let loose”? Had he not come here under the same pretense (if not to wander about aimlessly to avoid the mundane task of patrolling the Basin)? It was often a chore that he meant to evade simply because it had a way of wearing on him when there was certainly no threat lying in wait, especially a threat that meant harm for the largest herd in Helovia itself? He could only imagine the insanity that would accompany such an attack… They were a growing family, one that if reckoned with, could result in disaster. However, this power was something to be envied and admired and the man was fully aware of this authority, perhaps even empowered by it.

There had been a time when he was not so enthused by such supremacy simply because it felt wrong to endure, but now that it had purpose and he was able to revel in that cause, it was enlightening. The Basin was nothing like the clan he had once served and certainly nothing like the overwhelming rule of his own father and for this he was thankful that he had found a place among their ranks. They had freed him from the troubles of sin and given him more than he could have ever hoped for. Whether or not he would always embrace this idea was something to be questioned, but in the meantime he was more than content to allow its reign to control his motives, his drive.

As the Corporal moved closer, he was obliged to allow her a place by his side. He could only assume that she had seen the object of war and come to enjoy the affection of pain and hardship. For this, he could admire her strength, if only at a distance because there was no reason to believe that she has truly seen the bloodshed that now tainted his own everlasting existence. Perhaps he would ask her of her experience one day, though it would appear that a more appropriate setting would be suitable. After all, they had not left the Basin in order to discuss the bloodied tales of their past; no, they had come seeking escape and he would not be the one to disapprove her reasons for reclusion. “I’m quite certain that the Time God will take no offense to your admiration of the lands outside his rule- they are just as beautiful and alluring as a fine maiden. We can look but we cannot touch.

A devious smile seemed to part his lips at the comparison and he reveled in the underhanded compliment only because he sought to encourage her. He needed to find the source of her loyalty, being that she was a creature deigned to control even him. Her word had the ability to send him into battle and her gaze was enough to make him draw still at her approach. Illynx, though not of the highest ranking Unicorns in the Basin, was equipped to command him even if he had yet to deem her capable of doing so. However, as she was now close enough to observe without restraint, Déodat was captivated by her golden eyes, eyes that bore into his own with intensity quite unknown to him. Her skin was painted in golden smoke and her step was light and agile- something that made her more appealing to the soldier simply because it allowed him to imagine her skill during battle. If she was just as quick on her feet under attack, then he would have no problem following her into the throws eager to protect, eager to defend.

I am Déodat- yours to command at will Corporal Illynx.” Again, a playful smile was quick to follow the humorous thrum of his witty encouragement. It had been some time since he had been able to feel so freely, being that he did not often spend much time with those of his own breeding (aside from Lena and d’Artagnan of course). They had left an impression on his heart and he was more than eager to find out if this golden touched mare would do the same. After all, he was no often moved by others in any situation such as this, but of course he was more than willing to make an exception.

Gazing past the Corporal and into the glass tunnel beyond, Déodat searched for the reason behind the mare’s obvious fascination. Of course he saw nothing and was utterly bored by the never ending walls of ice. However, whatever kept his superior here amongst the blue was enough to restrain him as well. “I see nothing of value here other than good company my friend. I don’t suppose you’d care to entertain me for the time being… I hear there’s a storm coming in.” He was charming and alluring and most of all oblivious to the depth of such an invitation, but of course he intended to take charge of such an opportunity since it may be some time before it ever happened again. How often would he find himself face to face with the Corporal of the Basin, allowed to press her at will? Such an occasion would not come around again anytime soon, so why would he ignore this chance to indulge himself?

He was quite intrigued by Illynix, Corporal of the Basin, but now it was her turn to prove that she deserved this definition of power for a man that sought such clout in any female deemed worthy of his attentions. But the heft of her title would soon ensure close scrutiny and so he hoped that she would pass the inevitable test that would ultimately lead to the loyalty of one blood-red stallion with a crimson painted glass horn. This was the moment of truth, one that would define her rule over him (which he couldn’t say was a bad thing entirely… she was attractive enough after all.)
