I actually feel like this clue is a bit too far-fetched. As the word rune describes "a letter of an ancient Germanic alphabet, related to the Roman alphabet:" OR a verse in the Kalevala, and the word root is from the Old English rūn 'a secret, mystery'; as well as Old Norse rúnir, rúnar 'magic signs, hidden lore'; similarities exist in Irish, where it typically means mystery. I feel like "rune" is too much of a word to be related to "secret", as they do not even show up as related in thesaurus. Thus, I would fail this clue. Ancient as time - Name ref; the Phoenix (Faweks) is an ancient mythological bird Good clue. The google results on "Fawkes" bring up the list of all Fawkes', including Dumbledore's Phoenix, and the Phoenix in turn is mentioned to be "a long-lived bird that is cyclically regenerated or reborn" which would indicate both time and long age. Aside from that, the most well-known Fawkes is Guy Fawkes, Dumbledore's Fawkes' namesake. Pass. Gaze too deeply and - Magic ref; the ability to see what kind of magic others have Solid, good clue pertaining to Fawkes' magic. Pass. you might sea no more - coat ref; his coat is deep blue, like the sea. Good clue pertaining to his appearance; everyone caught you were after something blue. Pass. That's 3/4 clues passed, so this is an overall pass from me.
