Words.

They had startled her. Regardless of the sugar that coated their entry into the world, Sia’s hooked ears flattened against her neck as she twisted towards its source. At once the familiar arrival of fear crawled back in its knowsome place, making her appear fierce; she would face it, she thought.

Except, beyond the rush that hit her nerves, she was surprised to stare upon a creature not much younger than herself. It did not help that the stranger, so young, crawled her eyes about her body. Perhaps it had truly been the fear alone, and the adrenaline induced shock that made the process much more unbearable than it was. It felt wrong nonetheless; leaving an undesireable taste in the air that made Sia pause in the after math of her scare. It was good that she hadn’t lashed out, or else… who knew? Would the Basin retract their hospitality? Would she be forced out, on the whims of her fanatical imaginations and her delusional responses?

She took a moment to look away from the filly; inclining her head towards the hotsprings before catching her breathe and allowing her ears to slope forwards. A sigh broke the tension she held in her chest, thinking; it’s fine, this will be good… I need to talk to people. I need to make sure she doesn’t think I’m always like this. It’s… it’s only temporary.

Forcing her newfound resolve with an objective, she drew her eyes back on the filly. A smile curled along the edges of her maw, light but visible for the stranger to acknowledge. “I’m not used to the dark,” she tried explaining. Laughing slightly, except in itself it came off a bit awkward. Sia had not seen many youth on her journeys; usually they did not last for very long… so while it often made her happy to be with those of her age, she couldn’t help but resist the urge to cling to friendships she knew wouldn’t last.

“Sia, it’s Sia; newly arrived.” There was a slight tremor in her voice that quickly disapeared as she went on. It would have taken a good friend to recognize the uncertainty she had just about saited for the time being. Though for now her voice would remain steady. As long as she could ignore her loss, and that in itself proved a challenge yet. She hoped, just for the time being, that she could escape it, even for a little while.

“So… what’s there to do for fun around here?” Too much effort, and it would have been too obvious that she was going out of her comfort zone. Sia would remain careful, cautious in her internal thinking; she at least understood how ‘children’ were supposed to act. The consensus of wonder and exploration that thrived in their growing minds, accentuated by the grandeur of imaginaiton –not of nightmares and dying corpses – but of the adventures and wonders to be had out there in the world – not the death, and the losses -.

She took a step closer, wondering if the fae would at least be interested in her proposition; and for the time being it actually sounded like… it could be fun. Whatever fun there was in the Basin. Or perhaps it would take a turn, maybe the filly would wonder about the song she’d sprung from her lips, and maybe she would allow her sorrow to break through her sloppy mask.

Sia ran with what she had. She knew very little in the first place about the stranger, so truly, time would determine the play here.
